Overall, i thought the event was awesome. It was nice to see something other than UFC.
Charles Bennett knocked out his opponent viciously. The chick fight with Gina Carano was very entertaining. Villansenor dominated the Crow. Antonio Silva looks like the next big thing in the HW division. and Renzo was taking it to Shamrock. Frank is such a fag though. If knees on the ground(let alone to the back of the head) were alllowed, Renzo would have finished him with knees. Frank was just looking for a way out. In his mind he's number 1 in the world when in reality he was tooled around by Renzo Gracie for christ sakes! Just imagine what Anderson Silva, Dan Henderson, Matt Lindland, Paulo Filho and Denis Kang(i can name about 10 other middleweights that will beat him) would to do Frank. I cant wait for another Elite XC event. The promoter, Gary Shaw did a very good job and it was a huge success on Showtime. Circle Cage > the Octagon |

yeah i was really pissed when i saw that. it was obvious that renzo was winning, but knowing shamrock he would have flipped out and probably knocked him out. it was pretty clear that frank was in it to hurt renzo. from the looks of it he didnt even care that he lost which was the funny part. i still would have liked to see how the rest of the fight would have been like. i still think frank would have won but we will never know until a rematch.

First, that standup rule has to be the biggest pile of shit I've ever seen. If a guy can't get off the ground then he doesn't *deserve* to get off of the ground. It's sad to see that a 15-second rule has to be put in to appease a crowd that probably knows nothing about how ground battles go. Perhaps they should just stick to the overdramatization of the WWE (btw, nice comment from Goldberg about his wrestling being fake).
Speaking of that, I felt that Frank Shamrock's attitude was something you'd expect out of the drama queen's in professional wrestling. There's no way that he is *that* stupid. He doesn't believe that he didn't know the rules before going into the match, and he gave off a poor display of sportsmanship after injuring Renzo Gracie. I feel that Shamrock was doing better at the stand up portion of the fight, but he was unable to keep Gracie from taking him to the ground. In fact, he wanted to knock Gracie out instead of getting in any way that would work. To that end his ground game was exceptionally poor this time around. It would definitely been more impressive if he could have out-grappled Gracie (hint: kimura-lock, it takes out all the Gracies). If he really wanted to knock out Gracie though, he should have taken lessons from Dan Henderson. If he could have just held out without getting submitted by Gracie then he probably would have won by decision since judges judge on flash or whatever. It seems he completely neglected his ground game just to get a knock out on Renzo though. And he broadcasted that. Renzo knew he wanted to knock him out, he knew everything Frank was going to do, and Frank just couldn't prevent Renzo from taking him to the ground. I'd only hope he learns from his mistakes instead of letting his massive ego getting in his way. He's a good fighter, and it's a shame to see him act this way. |
