I think their lists are pretty accurate. But I'd like to see Cacareco in either the bottom half of the top 10 of the middleweights or as an honorable mention. Also, Pete Williams should be in the top 10 heavyweights. What happened to Carlos Barretto?
Does anyone have any info about about Rich Franklin? He's a heavyweight, about 6'3" tall and 225 lbs, in very good shape w/ overall good skills. He's looked impressive in the latter Extreme Challenge tournaments. He KO'd the Iron Bear Gary Meyerss w/ a head kick. Rich was really hard to take down in that fight. WHat's his record? He looks like a B+ fighter ready to make a name for himself IMHO. MEB Boy |

Barkaleav weighs about 200 pounds. The Kuwait tornament was originaly supose to be a lightwieght (about 185 pound limit) but the weight limit was changed to 90 kilos (198 pounds) and Barkaleav still had to cut weight to reach under the limit.
"Cacareco" Ferreira last fight he was submited by Kanehara in RINGS. Kanehara is a good fighter that is considered one of the best Japaneese middlewights after Sakuraba and Tamura, he has KO win over Overeem (aka the guy that submited Couture in Rings) and Dave Menne. Pete Williams needs to fight a "name" oponent. While a quick win over Roger Neff was impresive he needs to fight a recognizable name in order for him to regain the status of a top 10 fighter in the minds of most people. Carlos Barreto lost a decision to Australian Chris Haseman RINGS. Haseman used his better standup to dominate Barreto. Barreto fights next on the 2hot2Handle card in Holland against Yvel. Rich Franklin fights on the RINGS USA card on March 17 against Travis Fulton. A good test for the newcomer. THe biggest error in the rankings is putting Tamura in the lightwight division despite that he fights at 195 to 205 pounds. |

I'm not into lists, but at least this one doesn't have Coleman ranked #1. Just because he beat Igor in a tournament almost a year ago, doesn't mean he's the best now. Igor had just had a fight and Coleman didn't. As little of an advantage as that may sound; when fighters of that skill level go at each other, any little advantage helps. I demand a rematch!

I agree with this list, I personally think Igor Vovchanchin is the best out there, for right now. Just because he had a tough fight against Coleman, that doesn't change my mind, everyone here knows that nobody is going to be on every time out.

There is something I can't figure out. Vanderlei Silva and Frank Shamrock are both Middleweights that weigh around 200 pounds when they fight. Vanderlei Silva is ranked #3 and Frank Shamrock is ranked #4 in the Middleweight rankings. However, Frank Shamrock is ranked higher than Vanderlei Silva on the pound for pound ratings. He is listed at #5, while Silva is listed at #9.

If I'm not mistaken, Pele weighed around 190 lbs for the Kuwait tourney, so the size disparity wasn't as great as it seems.
Pele's a tough mofo in the lightweight category, but gets served everytime he steps up in weight. Liddell beat him down in IVC. The fight wasn't even close! Carloa barreto had a very poor performance against Hasslemen in Rings. Fil was not mistaken. Barreto was dominated from start to finish. Kind of odd considering that barreto defended against Vov's standup, yet he ate punches/ kicks from Hasslemen through out the fight. Overall, I think the rankings are pretty accurate. I definitely think pete williams will regain his top ten status. later.....

I'd like to see M. Coleman and Igor V. again. Coleman had the easiest first & second fight in the tournament. Igor took some real hard shots from Big Daddy and had a real tough fight with Sak. I'm not saying Mark wouldn't beat him again, however before I'd rank Coleman first over Igor I'd want to see it with both fighter's fresh. Coleman has lost 3 fights (not counting Takada, too much controversy) He obviously lost the decision to Mo but IMO was ahead or even until 3/4 through the fight,
He was ahead of Pete on points when he got nailed in OT, and IMO he beat Rizzo so he's been in every fight he's fought. Igor V. has fought and defeated the best. I'm surprised Pride hasn't set this up. Hawk

Hawk:
Good question. Pride's politics are an unfathomable mystery to me. My best guess is that Igor has a "Tyson-like" reputation right now which would be damaged by a second loss to Coleman. In fact, Coleman may be the only man under contract to Pride who can beat Igor (Sak maybe?). I would guess they want to milk this one as long as possible. |

You're probably right Ronin. I feel Sak would have a lot of problems with a fresh Igor. Believe me, Igor got nailed
with a heck of a shot by Goodridge. IMO he wasn't 100% against Sak or Coleman. Hawk
