When he fights Oleg Taktarov or Jerry Bohlander.
Pride brings him back becasue he's an exciting fighter to watch. Every one of his fights have been avtion packed. He always goes all out and I've yet to see him stall in a fight. Personaly I like seeing him on a card because you know it's going to be a real battle. Even the fights he's lost he ahsn't been easy to beat(except the Yvell fight). Both times agaisnt Vovchanchin he was winning the fight until he let Igor up and decided to stand and trade with him for some reason. |

Andre Roberts 2, Don Frye used to beat him down daily, Goodridge would do okay against Frye, and as soon as the clouds got dark he'd tap, goodridge is a big tough guy, he just lacks in sub skills

yeah, that's a good point tuff guy. but the thing is when you watch him fight, you know he's not gonna win and that takes away from it a little. at least that's the case with me. i'd rather see someone fight that has a real chance of winning.

Gary Goodridge has kicked some ass and I would never count him out against anyone. The Pride fans want him even if some American fans don't care for him. Pride fighters aren't just about winners, they also like interesting fighters.

I'd rather see Goodridge over:
Vitor Belfort Tom Erickson Dan Henderson I'm into a good fight, not a stall fest. Since when is Goodridge counted out of every fight? He's not an A-level fighter, but seeing him beat someone of "higher calibur" wouldn't be that big of an upset at all...

Gary Goodridge kicked John Campatella's butt (I think it was Big daddy's 2nd UFC appearance ,forgot the number. big daddy took his back after Campatella threw him with the fireman's carry, then he punched him and Campatella tapped out. Campatella is a practitoner of Vadha Kempo(get this) which they claim is an Ancient Tibetan form of karate (confused yet?). He has a school now in that he shares with kickboxing champ Orlando Rivera, i think in Bklyn .

From his MMA record 11 wins and 12 losses you can see he is not an A level fighter but is not a fighter to be taken lightly since many times when he has faught veteran fighters like Vochanhin and Ruas he has given competitive fights despite eventualy losing. Anyway in Japan losing isnt such a big of a big deal as to North American atitudes that if you lose you "suck". In USA Goodridge may be a has been or never was put in Japan he still has a fan base.
Goodridge is good fighter to use as a litmus test. If you beat him you prove your worth if not you dont deserve to be brought back. Keeping someone like Goodridge, Hoffman or Abbott is a good idea to seperate the good new fighters to the ones that shouldnt be in a major MMA event. One of the reasons Pride likes Goodridge is because he is very dependable, he takes fights on short notice even with injuries and consistently gives entertaining matches. I have heard that Goodridge is a reliable person unlike some other fighters that pull out of fights or stall at signing a contract. You have to remember Pride is a business first and having Goodridge around makes financial sence. Goodridge showing Oleg it is time to retire...

As usual, fil has it right. I like to see Big Daddy fight...because he comes to fight, win or lose. He is not the gamest guy out there, but he hits hard and can hurt you.
Just like Tank Abbott. It's a shame those two guys never went at it. That fight is one of the best fights that never happened. |
