while Liddell has skills in all assets of fighting, he always just wants to stick to his wild striking style, and he payed for it. |

Not true, some guy name Carlos won in 2001. He was the welterweight champ. I'll check my sources and post his last name soon.

Carlos Newton, He was a Canadian Black who won the UFC welterweight crown in 2001.... ............... Rasheed Evans will be the next Brother to win the title. That's my prediction. Rasheed Evans Heavyweight Champ within 18 months.

I don't know...what if Big John didn't stop the fight...what if he waited just a few more seconds? Chuck ate a couple of punches from Rampage's sidemount but he was still active and wasn't really out of the action yet. He got up right away when the fight was stopped and seemed pissed that BJM had stepped in.
I never liked Chuck's style and I'm glad he lost. He's just a little too white trash American for me. He's got a vicious fighting style and he punished lots of guys with it but I didn't think he was as skilled of a striker as other people seemed to think. But C'MON, he's NOT overrated. He had an amazing winning streak against top competition, you gotta give him that. And if they fight a rematch you can't be sure it will go down the same way this fight did. I think the LHW division is in for some serious re-shuffling over the coming year. I can't see any one fighter winning all the time against top competition in the future, there are just way too many great fighters out there now. |

Well, for the record I voted for Jackson. I expected the KO early. Both of these guys were eager to prove something.
Nice to view the video clip but I'm glad I didn't pay money to see that fight. Rampage Vs. Iceman 3 anyone?

Hold on Noobies you forgot about Maurice Smith
Carlos Newton was not the first African American UFC champ it was Maurice Smith who beat Mark Coleman in 1997, defended his title against Tank Abbot then lost it to Randy Couture. |

Chuck was out after the 2nd or 3rd punch, the last shot just woke him up again. If you watch the slo-mo replays it's pretty clear.
I have never been a big Liddell fan, but I respect the hell out of what he's accomplished. He has destroyed many top fighters and helped make MMA a household interest in the USA. Sure, his punching looks sloppy and his hands are down much of the time, but his strategy worked for a long time against many different game plans. I knew Jackson had a good chance to win, partly because he had beaten Liddell once before, but I actually expected Liddell to pull it out. Jackson won by taking Chuck out of his game. Chuck usually capitalizes on an opponent rushing in, backing up and delivering a KO as they close. Jackson played patient, dominated the center, and made Liddell initiate. Liddell threw the first punch of the exchange, then tried to back out as if Rampage was going to clinch, with his hands down. That beautiful right over Chuck's left hand was perfectly delivered. I am excited to see what comes of this, not only the fights, but to see if Liddell can adjust his game successfully. Hackleman, his ring strategist, has some serious thinking to do. Henderson/Jackson will be awesome. Probably not what Rampage particularly wanted right away, but definitely great for the fans.

Chuck was laid out, not covering up basically doing nothing but eating punches when the ref stepped in. Not exactly what I would call "Intelligent defense" In the after fight comments with Rogan by Rampage, Jackson even poked fun at the idea the fight was stopped early. I would like to thank Rampage for making me 60$ AOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW!! |
