![]() | I guess this is more of a theoretical question rather than a person or persons since just about everyone is cross training and not taking one martial art and being married to it. My ignorant question is just which person, in a pure training style woulb be the best kicker? Now there are many kicking martial arts out there, from Muay Thai, TKD, Karate, Savate, Kung Fu and others... From my limited exposure to these other martial arts besides the ones I've trained in, I would have to say Muay Thai but as I said, I am not an expert to see all the styles by experts. Any opinions as to which martial arts teaches the best kicks? Last edited by SweepEm; 03-16-2001 at 12:45 AM. |

![]() | Honestly I chose TKD.Like I said in the other thread, just because most of the students aren't talented enough or fast enough doesn't mean TKD students aren't learning a good kicking style. It all depends on how the person trains. Most TKD schools are only focused on point fighting, which in real world doesn't help out too much. But if they were to train more on delivering devestating KO power kicks in actual sparring matches then they would definitly learn to use it on the street effectively. But unfortunately most of the TKD schools are like I said more focused on winning tournaments. If the question had been who are the most effective kickers then I'd choose Muay Thai fighters, mainly because they actually get into the ring and put up or shut up,they also find out what works and what doesn't. |

![]() | Even though I study TKD I voted for Muay Thai because of its more realistic applications. From my own experience I kick to hurt and do damage not to score points but when I am sparring in class I have to hold back since we are supposed to be just doing light contact...one of my favorite things is delivering a tap to someone's check with my instep, their usual response is, "I am glad you have good control" heh heh heh When I watch the olympic stuff though it just seems like its tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap..etc. In my own sparring I would say that my style is primarily defensive and involves using stop kicks when the opponent is moving in to my close range. That went waaaay off the topic of this thread..but what you gonna do? heheh

![]() | I've fought just about every style there is and in my experience MT stylists are by far best kickers as far as power. However, if you are fighting a grappler you're better off with a less powerful, but more accurate kick such as JKD. TKD kicks a good, however they don't have the power of MT and leave you just as open. Japanese kicks are more to set up punches then to actually take someone out. Hawk

![]() | MT seems to be the best kicking style: My TKD buddy who know trains MT said the power difference compared to TKD was overwhelming. I have another friend who was a Kungfu world champ and he mainly resorts to MT leg kicks and knees. They've recorded some of his challenge fights and that's his weapon of choice along with punches. I also base my opinion on NHB fighting. Very rarely, do you see spinning or Axe kicks. Most guys go with bread and butter leg kicks and an occasional round house to the head. later amigos.....

![]() | Muay Thai for toughness and effectiveness in a fighting situation whether it be in the ring or elsewhere. TKD for beautiful fancy kicking. Not being sarcastic here. Whilst my initial training was in Muay Thai, I always had a bit of an envy for things TKD specialists could do. |

![]() | I like the Savate kicking for a street fight because in Savate you kick with shoes one and theres lots of toe shots that hurt really bad and are very difficult to block that would be to effective if you had no shoes. I like Muay Thai if the guy is against a wall or someplace where he can't back up. If it's out in the open and I go for a low line round house and he backs up I could really get jacked up. |
