Well, most of the Gracies have lost to guys that have crosstrained in BJJ to some degree or another. In fact most of the current group of top fighters have some BJJ experience. So even with the latest Gracie lost BJJ and crosstraining has still won out. If you guys don't believe that the Lion's Den guys haven't crosstrained in BJJ go ask Roy Harris, he'll set you straight. BJJ is but one component that can be used, and it has proven itself to be a pretty useful and effective tool. BTW, getting out of a head lock being by someone very strong isn't that easy, I've been in one in a similiar situation and watched a couple of bluebelts have the same problem.

Whoever said this is dead wrong "The only time BJJ has ever been effective in MMA was in the early days when most guys had no clue about submissions" BJJ works all the time when your on the ground, I don't expect BJJ focused fighters to do will in striking or takedowns compared to wrestlers, but when your on the mat your in their world most of the time, and the moves work on everyone. Do you think Horn knows nothing about subs and BJJ? He just got armbarred in like 2 minutes by a purple belt. I think a lot of my BJJ training partners could really give a guy like you a shock if you really believe BJJ only works when the other guy has no clue about submissions. Plus todays BJJ'ers ARE concentrating on takedowns.

It's funny you bring up Horn becasue he is a purple belt himself, as is Miletich. They both trained BJJ, thier orriginal disapline was BJJ when they first were fighting. Only after Miletich formed his team did he change his style to Miletich fighting system. Horn himself has been to Renzo's on more than 1 occasion over the last 2 years.

Most bjj guys that stress takedowns won't be able to take down a good wrestler anyway. Same for bjj guys that do muy thai not being ready to trade blows with a good striker. They say they crosstrain for defensive purposes but in any case, it ain't workin.

That is why I used Horn as an example, he is skilled at BJJ and subs and still can get submitted like anyone else, while someone earlier said BJJ only works on people that don't know submissions, that is ridiculous.
