Default UFC should allow Knees to head during side control

Knees to head during side control need to be included in UFC rules, This would stop alot of slopy ground action and poor defence technique you see in UFC compared to Pride.

There is no augument against them -
There enjoyable to watch.
They are a big part of ground fighting.
They do not cause cuts.
Add value to side control position, which is a very dominant postion when Knees are allowed.

I agree with the knees being allowed. I want the Pride and UFC rules to join together but that will most likely not happen. There are strikes if were allowed will change the current game like elbows to the face while standing and headbutts would chage the clinch.

Default Knees to the head.

I think the main reason knee strikes to the head are not allowed while on the ground is because of the Boxing Commission in the different states. They are worried about head trauma because when on the ground your opponent is not able to move his head out of the way like he is when standing.

I always thought it was funny that you can knee a guy in the head when standing and knock him out but can not knee the head when on the ground.

Let's add "small joint manipulation" (e.g. finger and toe breaking), pinching/skin ripping, groin grabbing and smashing, and biting to the mix too. I'd draw the line at eye gouging and dim mak ("death touch") though.

I agree on the knees issue. the wrestler can rest on all 4's. well not exactly rest but he's a little safe. The game is so high now, you're still not safe anywhere.

glad to see you aggree Knees to ground are good idea,

Small joint manipulation is going cause to much serious injury if allowed, can hurt alot just in practise (same with head butts).

Although I aggree if allowed would change the dynamic of defensive techniques used.

In regards to state commissions setting rules, if they are worried about injury then elbows should not be allowed, as they just cause cuts, but rarely finish a fight. Therefore a large number of TKO have happened resulting in a win for an opponent that was not dominant, but had a bad cut.

Also if the state commissions sets the rules, then why not allow modified rules in other states or countries. More and more organisations are only using the UFC rules, unlike the old days when a diverse set of rules were allowed, creatingwell rounded fighters with a more realistic style.

the reason the ufc does not use modified rules in different states and different countries is that they want some kind of uniformaity in their product. The ufc wants knees to the head but so far the nevada state atheletic comission has denied it and Las Vegas is where most of the UFC s are held. Also its' better to work within the system rather than to do something that the NSAC might frown upon even if it's not under their jurisdiction.

I agree with this as well, I also think they should be allowed to kick while down. That's how pride did it, and there wasn't much problem. Why does the UFC look down upon this. I believe it's an important aspect of fighting.
