Default wrestling shoes

i need some wrestling shoes, so i went to dicks and they had some on display. I tried on two pair, size 11 and 10 1/2. The elevens feel a little loose, like i might not have good enough balance, while the 10 1/2s feel a bit tight. whats better for a shoe, a little tight or a bit loose? i dont know who else to ask. ive never wrestled, and i wasnt sure if this section of the forum was the right place to ask seeing how there really isnt one for wrestling. any help would be much appreciated.

Asics are a good shoe. A little tight is better than a little loose. What are you doing? You might want to look at a split-sole shoe for more takedowns and matwork or a solid heavier sole for more stand up. Some of the newer stuff has better ankle support than ever so if that is an issue you can tailor your search that way.

awesome advice! you gave me just the answer that i was looking for. what am i doing? im joining the wrestling team at my college next year. its actually a club, so i figured it wouldnt matter as much that i suck. i already talked to the couch, and he said theres no experience necessary. so, i thought id try it out, 'cause i thought it'd help with my BJJ. sorry for the life story...and thanks for the advice.

Cool. I'd go with a lightweight split sole then.

Let us know how you do!

I've always went with Asics back in high school but it seems like their soles wear out really fast. I've owned 2 or 3 pairs and the soles start coming off after a bit. Nothing a little cement glue won't fix though.

who would you turn to if not asics? is there another brand you prefer?

p.s. my problem with it being tight, by the way, wasnt with the length so much as the width. but, the looseness of the other was by way of length, not width.

If that's the case I personally think you should go with the one that's a little tight with the width. Like Jubaji said, tight is better than loose. Asics aren't bad, it depends on what weight class you're in too, if you're in the lower weight classes there's going to be a lot more shot attempts and sprawls, wearing out your soles pretty good, while the upper weight classes theres probably going to be more clinchwork which is a little easier on the soles.

Oh and btw if it's your first year wrestling just go with the Asics and disregard what I said .

haha deal! either way itll work out good though. im really glad you guys agree on the tight option actually. it would suck if i thought i had the answer, and then you came along and kept it in the air. its unanimous...im going with the smaller size. thanks guys.

I have both addidas and asics and I like them both. Addidas seem to be more stylish. I go for slightly bigger with a Dr. Scholes pad in for comfort.

I have some nice Adidas Response wrestling shoes I bought when my toes were starting to split open (I know, gross), but they made it hard to get out of half guard so I haven't worn them much since my toes healed.
