this was posted by ground hog on ITG:
Today (March 31, 2001) was Carlos Enrique Elias' last day as an instructor with the Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Academy in Torrance, California. As most of you already know, Caique is a 4th Degree Black Belt under Helio Gracie and is considered by Helio Gracie a professor of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu on par with his own sons. Students at the many Gracie training associations throughout America have been significantly impacted by the quality and breadth of Caique's instruction and friendship. Simply put, to drink from the pure waters of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu in America was to be taught by Caique. Many of you will ask why Caique left Rorion Gracie. You will not find the answers to those questions over the internet. That matter is best left between them. More importantly though, why cry over spilled milk!? Caqiue's affiliation with the Gracie Academy is part of the past. Let's look towards the future instead. This exciting news heralds a new era -- CAIQUE JIU-JITSU is coming to a town near you! Here's the most exciting part: CAIQUE is leaving California! What that means is that another major city in America will now have the sort of BJJ black belt instruction that has made us all so envious of the West Coast. There will be a major announcement in the very near future disclosing the location of his flagship academy (can you guys guess where? ). Also, many other excitings things are in the works concerning this move. This is really good news people! High quality BJJ instruction is finally spreading all the way across America! GROUNDHOG I posted this on ITG: Hmmmm, another black day for Torrance. So, another instructor leaves Torrance and it seems with no affiliation with the home dojo. I wonder just who Caique will be associated with, if any? I trained with Caique when he first arrived here in the US and he was kind of hard to understand with his English but got really good fast. Caique's cool demeanor and excellent teaching skills made him a favorite as an instructor. I've heard more than a few guys say that if/when Caique leaves, they will follow or go elsewhere. It will be interesting who takes Caqiue's place, yeah, I know Royce will pick up the slack, but I know they will need another black belt. Good luck to Caique, he will have a great school where every he goes. Look at Fabio Santos, another Torrance instructor that left, is doing very well in San Diego. Fabio's school has produced many quality athletes. Look, this might be an oppurtunity for the many Gracie haters on this forum to say more sheeet about Rorian/Royce and Torrance. You can say what you want. But instead, just look at it that Caique is branching out, trying his wings and see how he will do on his own. |

I will miss Caigue, he was not only a great instuctor but a fantastic friends, and I look forward to training with him again in my travels.
I heard Ryron is coming back Monday, and he is coming back a black belt. Anyone know if this is true? I thought you had to beat or do well with a Gracie brother to receive a black belt. |

it's not a joke.
there's always jon burke, marc, art... there's a number of good guys that can teach blue and white belts... and then when ryron comes back, he can help out too. heck, maybe they'll bring back rolker for a couple of months. they have a pretty deep teaching roster.

Rolker?
Man, that guy is such a cool dude, but his English is practically non-existent. Good thing we had one dude in class that knew Portugese. When Rolker wanted to show us and say something, we had to have translation. Hey Karl, I was looking for you before I left today, but didn't see you. I sucked big time. |
