Default Krav Maga

Dont really know where to post this so i thought i would just put it in the most popular section.

I was just wondering what you guys think of this self defence system, Krav Maga. Anyone trained it? Used it? Recommend it? Hate it?

Thinking about why i want to study martial arts i came to a conclusion that i want to be able to fight hard and protect myself throughout my life. To feel safe on the street. So maybe learning a self-defence art like Krav Maga would be a good idea, especially if i combined it with another traditional art.

Any info on Krav Maga would be great.

Wing Chun, Muay Thai, BJJ, Krav Maga....

Grixti, are you just going through the "would you recommend" A-Z of martial arts? You've already had some great advice from some really experienced people, and they are all trying to tell you that the art doesn't hold the answer. You don't seem to be taking any of it on board.

i think you should train at ernie reyes west coast karate.

http://www.erniereyes.com/

i trained there for a few years when i was like 12 years old or so. see the guy in the black muay thai shorts in the second picture? that guy was one of the instructors there and i totally remember him telling us one day how important it is for us as martial artists to keep our minds and bodies clean, and stay away from bad things and stuff like that. then like 10 minutes later after class was over, i was in the liquor store next door to buy a drink and i saw him browsing through all the porno magazines, and i remember really being let down.

Sorry if thats the impression you got Michael. I have actually taken on board the advice everyone has given me and really appreciate it. Whats wrong with being thorough in my investigation on martial arts if i want to devote a lifetime to them.

In my posts i have gone over the main martial arts that interest me in their specific fields: Wing Chun (which i am training at the moment), Muay Thai (Stand Up), BJJ (Ground work) and now i have also considered a self-defence art. I thought i would gain some knowledge from people who know a lot about these things first hand.

Im not just asking these questions for the sake of it, i am genuinely interested in what everyone has to say as their words may directly affect my life.

Just to add, this idea came from my post on my theory on training Wing Chun with more focus on sparring, practicing the moves with power and under pressure: Boxing-Style Wing Chun. . I came across Krav Maga. It seemed to have a similar style of training to what i suggested in my post so i thought i would mention it and see what people thought of it.

I'm not trying to give you a hard time mate.

What I am trying to do is stop you from spending years hopping from one art to the other looking for something that doesn't exist - the art that has all the answers.

The most important question you need to ask yourself, honestly is, why am I doing this? What am I looking for? What is my end result? That will strongly influence what you get out of it.

I had a Police Officer from The Met come to me lately and say "I have been training in martial arts for over ten years, and no one has offered what I am looking for". I said "what are you looking for?" and he said.....

"a bit of everything"

I have trained some Krav and have to say that it is the best "street fighting self defense system" (not martial arts) that I study. There is no uniform katas or speaking in diferent language..Just basic moves to help if a street confrentation occurs..

Just my opinion..
