Default Shamrock & Le

I'm amazed no one is talking about this one. Getting ready to start in a few. Any picks?

I'd say Shamrock by submission since Shamrock is more experienced as a MMA fighter than Le.

I think it will be a good fight, still.

Shamrock will try to close on Le right away since Le likes to stand up; Le will put up some decent takedown defenses and keep it standing up. Le and Shamrock will go toe to toe for a bit and have some great stand up exchanges maybe Le landing a few good ones, but Shamrock will eventually get him to the ground.

Le and Shamrock will mix it up on the ground, with Shamrock getting the better of him by submission.

Cung apparently used to really manhandle Shamrock at those sessions, too. Of course, that was a long time ago...

I'm taking Shamrock on the ground. I give takedowns and striking to Cung, but Shamrock's takedowns actually are better for MMA. So really, this is a match between a decent striker who's also a good grappler against a good striker who's also a decent grappler.

Unexpected result, but way to go Cung Le! Maybe in the rematch Shamrock will play to his strengths!

Play by play from sherdog:

http://www.sherdog.com/news/news.asp?n_id=12054

"Round 1
Le landed a kick to the body and shook off a takedown attempt from Shamrock. Frank landed a kick to the midsection that was answered by a left hand from Le. Cung opened up with his hands and connected with a right. Le kicked Shamrock in the face with his left foot as Frank bent over. Shamrok kicked lightly at the inside of Le's lead leg. Le went for a wild spinning back kick to the head and slipped. Shamrock rushed in and landed a knee that caused Le's lip to bleed. Shamrock finished strong with a punching flurry as time expired.

Tony Loiseleur scored the round 10-9 Cung Le
TJ De Santis scored the round 10-9 Cung Le
Mike Fridley scored the round 10-9 Cung Le

Round 2
Le ejected Shamrock's mouthpiece was a grazing kick. A lead left hand landed for Le, which was countered by a kick to the body. Frank taunted Cung as bruising started to show on the right side of his own face. The pace slowed as both fighters exchanged a few low kicks. Le pushed Shamrock backward with a kick to the body and a right hook that blasted Frank. Le is keeping Shamrock at bay with kicks to the midsection when he tries to get within trading range.

Tony Loiseleur scored the round 10-9 Cung Le
TJ De Santis scored the round 10-9 Cung Le
Mike Fridley scored the round 10-9 Cung Le

Round 3
Stiff kick to the liver scored for Le early in the third frame. A left straight, right hook combo found its target from Cung Le. Body kick, left, right scored for Cung. A hard kick to the body backed Shamrock up. Spinning back fist cracked Frank. Shamrock falls after a low kick. Le is dominating midway through the third. Shamrock picked up the piece but Le's awareness and footwork is keeping him out of harm's way. Shamrock landed his best punch of the fight. Shamrock is rallying with hard punches. Le is hurt with a right hand against the fencing. Shamrock is teeing off now with well-timed counter punches. An amazing round ends with Le peppering Shamrock against the fencing with a body kick and hook punches.

Tony Loiseleur scored the round 10-9 Cung Le
TJ De Santis scored the round 10-9 Cung Le
Mike Fridley scored the round 10-9 Cung Le

The fight is over. Shamrock is unable to continue due to what is being called an arm injury. Cung Le is the new Strikeforce middleweight champion."

Well I'll be! Le took the fight to Shamrock, kept it standing up and beat him. Looking forward to the fight on video!!

They're being overly gracious calling it a "takedown attempt by Shamrock." Shamrock wanted to stand and bang with Cung, and he let go.

Pit Dog is an unknown quantity at this point
Thumbs down Quitter

Frank Shamrock quit, plain and simple.

Shamrock had no broken arm, what he had was a defective heart. He took a few more hard shots than what he planned on, got tired, and did not want to take any more in the next round.

I wouldn't give a dollar and a half for Shamrock.

Glad Le won.. Frank was running his mouth and obviously he underestimated his opponent with a so called glass chin.
