So yeahhhh, I had my first ever Judo tournament the past weekend. Honest to God I was nervous as hell and pretty much all the throws I've been drilling with my coach went out the window the second the ref yelled "hajime!"
I would've much rather finished all my matches with throws and such but it kind of fell to the ground and I guess muscle memory kicked in. This was my first match, which I won, and then proceeded to lose 2 other ones, thus getting knocked out of the brackets. The second match the guy got me in a double leg of all things and the third match I had to go against a teammate which sucks. Feel free to comment on how much of a loser I am .http://myspacetv.com/index.cfm?fusea...deoid=31779772 http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fu...deoID=31780342 http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fu...deoID=31781583

Good job, getting in there and competing!!
Most people would shy away from even entering a competition. Some might even think it unnecessary, but you stuck your neck out there and put yourself to the test. Hopefully Jubs or Tant will give you some more technical advice.

Congrats on your victory! Learn from your defeats and they will help you win NEXT TIME!!

Well, that was actually a pretty crap double, he just caught you unprepared to restart. Looks like you were a bit nervous/hestitant. If you decide this is your thing, you'll probably do great as you become more familiar and confident with the context.

Good job, at least you at a competition. Don't be so nervous. It looked like your groundwork is better than your throws. I do Judo too it takes a while to be really good. Keep at it you will do good.

Nice armbar!
What are Judo tournaments like as far as how they treat BJJ players? Do they frown on people trying to move things to the ground? I've seen Judo guys at BJJ tournaments and sometimes they try to win on points from throws alone, which is fine I guess but it's kind of like "that's not the point..." |

Tip? Try some less traditional grips... Pant leg or obi (belt) and work on your reversals.
I think you did well for your first time, don't be disappointed with your losses. The harder you get slammed this time the harder you try next time!

. I definitely appreciate everyone for the feedback and advice, I will definitely keep training and trucking along. I'll keep you guys posted on my judo progress (and maybe my grappling too if time permits but I do too much of that for me to constantly post about). Next stop in Judo: Sunshine State Games in July. If I work hard now I'll be damned if I don't sweep a few victories under my belt during that tournament.
