Does anyone know if there is a legitimate
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu school in Amsterdam (Holland)? (Legitimate=recognised by any brazilian or american BJJ/GJJ federation or association). I know there are a handful of BJJ schools in Holland but, as far as I know, non of them is in Amsterdam. I've stop practicing martial arts for three years now so I am very eager to start training again. They have wonderful Muay Thay school down here, but I am truly in love with BJJ, since the early days of UFC. I envy you spoiled americans. So many top fighters teaching there I can't even count. Can someone help me out on this? Any help is appreciated. The Shaman

Ook een nederlander??
No, i don't know any bjj school in amsterdam, i don't live there. But go to, www.shoto.com and search in there school database. There are enough school that can teach you groundfighting but not in the form of bjj. Go to a good free fight gym

Yo bob,
I happen to live in HOLLAND for the time being. Not in Rio, not in Sao Paulo not in LA. That's why I mentioned you guys being spoiled there in the US. 'Cause you are. They don't have Renzo, Machado bros, Rickson or Royler teaching down here. They ain't got non o' that. So yes I am from Brazil, but I don't have the oppor tunity to train with my fellow countrymen. I'm out.

i said "from" brazil. read it again. you may not have the opportunity to train there now, but you have before and you will again. if you speak portuguese(you may or may not) that's another huge plus for you. a lot of people here live in la and ny, but nost people do not. if you were born and raised in brazil, and it took you all the way until the ufc's started to start training, it sounds like a lot of wasted opportunity on your part. you wanna tell me again who is spoiled?

Hey bobby,
This argument is stupid, but man, it seems YOU didn't read my post well. Sure there are about a 1000 BJJ doyos in Brazil but only a few have levels on par with Gracie Humaita, Gracie Barra and so on. Most school as far as I know are not recognised by any federation and have a lot of punks for students. So, I still think you guys are spoiled. You have LA and NY, we in Brazil have Rio and Sao Paulo. But if I could choose I would rather train with either Renzo, Machado or Rickson and those my fellow cyber friend, teach in the land of the 'free'. Most people don't live in Rio or Sao Paulo, they live elsewhere. Most people cannot pay the fees they ask for classes in Brazil. In the US, that's a little different, pal. I was born and raised in Brazil, but I was not aware of BJJ, for it was the eighties and back in the days BJJ wasn't worldfamous. Only when I left Brazil in early nineties I became aware of BJJ courtesy of Royce. So bobby let me remind ya: You guys are spoiled. As far as I am concerned this case is closed. P.S.: Yes I do speak portuguese

you assumed everyone lives in ny and la, i didn't assume every brazillian lived in rio or sao paolo. you think there are no shitty schools here? you think there's a gracie on every corner in every city? you think nobody has any trouble paying over $150 a month for bjj alone? you must not have spent too much time here. i think you have been watching too many 90210 reruns in brazil. |

OK.
Yes, I assumed everyone lived in NY and LA. If it wasn't for you I'd still think all americans lived in those two cities. Thanks for your enlightment. Yeah, they probably have shitty schools there, after all it IS America... Quote:
$150 a month for bjj alone, but the thing is that Brazil s economy is bankrupt. I said shiit was different, yes. It's difficult to compare the level of poverty of Brazil, with poverty in the USA. This is no competition or anything, but the situation in Brazil is worse then it is in America. You probably will think...never mind. Oh yeah, man, I love that show, how did you know? Can't wait to return to Brazil so I can finally watch the show and learn more about american culture. You are so right Bobby. I am spoiled as hell yo, (living in Europe an'all...) You don't know shiit of what I think, do or am, so all you do is make suggestions, you think, you think, you think... Now I would like to stop with this argument, for it leads to nothing.
