If this topic has already been posted sorry, but i haven't seen it here, so here it goes... It has been a few years since i saw the first UFC for the first time and for the sake of nostalgia i got out the tape the other day and watched it again. I was amazed at how terrible some of the fighters were. Given their level of mediocrity, how do you think you would have fared if you personally had fought in the first UFC? I'm not arrogant enough to think i would stand a chance against Royce or Shamrock, but if i could take Pat Smith off his feet i think i could have beaten him, and while Gerard Gordeau gets mad props for kicking that fat asses teeth out, i'm pretty sure i could have taken him too. As for the others the only thing memorable about them was their general lack of skill and impressive beer-guts. I think i could have conceivably made it to the semis. What about you guys?

Myself, I agree with you. I let other people say how "good" my grappling is, but realistically I think I may have done better than say Scott Morriss or Mr. Ettish.
Besides Royce and Shamrock (though he didn't know much about BJJ back then), the only other person that had some skills you needed to watch out for was Remco Pardou.

The guy is a kyokoshin, kickboxing, muay thai world champ.He started to study bjj right after the ufc. He would ko all of you in 5 minuts. I've attented a seminar with the shinan, he know alot of grappling now

or is it duckboy? i'm not really sure. anyways, let me clarify just in case. i asked how you thought you would have faired if, with the training you have now, you had fought in the first UFC. as you said yourself he didn't start training in bjj until afterwards, meaning that at the time of the first UFC he had no bjj training, apparent by the way Royce nearly strangled him to death, with very minimal effort. (but then again Royce has done that to a lot of ppl with bjj training.) Given the training i have had up to this time, and the fact that he had no groundfighting experience,i beleive that i could have easily taken him down and submitted him without getting slapped around too badly. now? who knows all of those guys could probably kick my ass since they have been training other styles.

Royce did not take shinan gordue down with ease, he stoped the first take down with ease. He fought royce a broken hand & foot.
Royce was one of the best bjj'ers back than.
