I was in class the other night and for some fun we decided to have some grappling sparring matches just to see what would happen.

One of our guys did 8 years of Aikido and was a college wrestler. He seemed to have the edge over the others with positioning and movement. Suddenly he goes for an armbar, misses but gets a triangle on the other guy.

Afterwards I asked him where he studied sport grappling. He told me yhe had never studied any submission grappling, only wrestling and Aikido.

It was then that it dawned on me what BJJ really is.
Would it not have made more sense for Carlos Gracie to have named it Brazilian Wrestling with Aikido?
This roles off the tongue a lot easier than the current terminology. It makes more sense also.

I've never thought of this. Very interesting. You deffinately have a point. Brazilian wrestling with aikido almost roles off the tongue as good as "Extreme Jiu-Jitsu" which I am the founder of and of course "Brazilian Ninjutsu" which I think Silva was training a little in before his Sakuraba fight.
