It has been confirmed that Top Team member Cassio Werneck will be competing against super heavyweight Garth Taylor in a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Superfight match!! This headlining match will take place on 4-21-01 (THIS SATURDAY) at the Capital City Grappling Open III tournament in Sacramento. I think general admission is $6 to watch all the fights in the tournament. I'm seriously looking forward to watching these two talented black belts go at it, plus all the other exciting matches by competitors from different schools!!! Look out for a 300+lb asian guy who will also be competing. Rumor has it that his guard is amazing and that he will be the next "Phenom" in the SuperHeavy Weight BJJ bracket. I copied some info about the tourney from the school's website:

CAPITOL CITY GRAPPLING OPEN-

GENERAL INFORMATION April 21st 2001

General Info: $45 pre-regristration do April 19th $55 with T-shirt $60 for late fee and day of the tournament Location: Kennedy High School 6715 Gloria Drive Sacramento, CA Directions: Take I-5 to Florin Road (approx. 8 miles south of downtown Sacramento). Take the west exit. Go straight for approximately 1.5 mil es. Turn right on Gloria Drive. Kennedy High School is on the right. Rules: Ways to win -Submission -Points -Achieve 14 points more than your opponent -Disqualification -In case of a tie the referee's decision will be based on overall aggresiveness (e.g., number of attempted takedowns, throws and submissions)

PROHIBITED: -No strikes of any kind: includes punches, knees, elbows, and headbutts. -No single digit manipulation: you must grab 4 fingers or 5 toes -No intentional slams (all throws must be clean, no slamming opponent in the guard) -No eye gouging -No fish hooking Misc. Rules: -Clothing: GI/kimono is optional, T-shirt, shirtless, wrestling shoes are option al) -All clothing may be grabbed with 2 limitations 1: there is a three second rule on the grabbing of shorts 2: there will be no grabbing of protective gear (e.g. ear protectors and kneepa ds) -Unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated and will result in immediated dis qualification -No scratching (fingernails must be clipped) -No heel hooks or leg locks that would twist the knee, all other leg submissions are legal. HEELS HOOKS AND TWISTS ARE ALLOWED ONLY IN THE ABSOLUTE AND ADVANCED DIVISIONS -No body oils or lubricants -No submission attempts with a sudden forceful movement.
