One of my buddies is a black belt in TKD. To make a long story short, he got into a crap talking contest with some drunk random guy. The guy says something about kicking my friend's ass here and now so then my friend takes a step back, gets into his little ready position and calls him out. But before the guy even takes a step forward, my friend throws a sudden flurry of kicks in the air while yelling "hai ya"s and "kiai"s. Then the other guy, who apparently looked ready to brawl a second ago starts walking away shaking his head and yelling "Fukk you!! I'm not gonna let you do that ninja sh!t on me!" And then he was gone. My friend is really proud of himself now and a lot of guys we know think he's a harda$$ now. I just think the whole thing was stupid as hell and pretty damn funny. Just thought I'd share.

No offence ...but your TKD friend is EXACTLY the kind of guy I'd like to take down and pound ...throwing air kicks and yelling....so stupid...
Ryu is right ...dont let it get to his head...

Hey, he beat the guy's mind without hurting his body. Good for him. No one got hurt for crap talking. Ueshiba would have been proud of him. TKD kicks can really hurt someone too, just like Wing Chung punching can. NOw, it is up to you to shoot in on him, take him down, and explain the laws of the UFC to him

Good for your TKD buddy. That's the sort of thing traditional martial arts teach, avoid fighting if you can but you have your training if you can not avoid it. Nobody was hurt or went to jail. Having to take someone down and beat the crap out of him over some shared drunken words is an ego problem, I guess. Maybe your friend does not have a swelled head and he just proud that he avoided actually fighting?

I too am a black belt in TKD ( I train Muai Thai/jiu jitsu now).
yeah, Its great nobody got hurt...I hate fighting in the street and I avoid it ALL the time... I just didn't like how your friend had to kick and yell like it proved something...doing that show boat stuff might have provoked the drunk even more! Luckily it didn't... Its best to talk your way out of these things...If the drunk started to attack...THEN throw the kicks and use your skills ...throwing them before anything happens is a stupid show off thing to do...not a very "traditional martial artist" thing to do. kick kick kick..."look at me..I know how to fight!" Thats not needed man..... oh yeah...low single leg...nice duch!! I do prefer double leg though! ![]()

This reminds me of Return of the Dragon where the karate guy does like a short kata & the Italian gangster punches his lights out!
Or that Indiana Jones movie where Indy just shoots the swordsman! A 3's Company Episode also comes to mind. I'm glad your friend did okay, just prepare him for next time. Rock On! -Badger |

Yeah I'm glad the situation resolved itself without getting too ugly, but I also think he was lucky as hell that the guy wasn't a seasoned brawler cuz then he would've laughed in my friend's face and then probably proceeded to try to knock his head off (my friend doesn't really keep his guard up too well either). Still...it would've been a little interesting to see what would've happened if they actually fought. My friend is by no means a wu$$ and he does have a powerful right leg, but he also can't punch very well at all and has no real grappling experience (other than getting submitted by me
). But hey, he proved that kata can be very useful in a real fight sometimes, LOL!
