Default Grapplers Quest Tournament in Wildwood NJ

There is a BJJ/No Gi Tournament in Wildwood NJ on March 7th. I was wondering if anyone was planning on attending/participating. I am thinking of participating in the Novice division (I'm pretty new to Grappling).

Has anyone done a Grapplers Quest tournament before? Any feedback is appreciated.

I've done Grappler's Quest before and frankly I was not too impressed with the experience. The rules and scoring system themselves were awkward enough and on top of that the referees pretty much judged the match however they liked. For example, one of the rules was that guard pulling would result in the opponent getting 2 points but I only saw maybe one referee enforce that rule, it definitely skews the results.

None of the referees seem to have grappled at all before so that doesn't really help either. Personally, I would never do a Grappler's Quest again but I suppose that's just me.

Thanks for the information. I'll probably compete in it anyway just for the experience, but I will keep that in mind, and make sure I completely review the rules.

My advice to you would be to not leave it up to the ref/judges. If you dominate clearly and submit him then there will be no need for BS scoring or BS calls. Best of luck, buddy!

Thanks man. I'm pretty new to grappling, so I am not sure how much I will dominate, but if I see a possibility to submit someone, I'll go for it. Thanks for the support. I'll post on here after the tourney.

Grapplers Quest - The World's Largest and America's Favorite Submission Grappling and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Tournament or click my blog link in my signature and read some more info there. I believe it's $80 to register, and $100 at the door.

There are several different divisions and weight classes, but you can read about all that on the GQ website.

I'll be competing at 140 - 149 divison for Novice (0 - 9 months of grappling).

Hope that helps, and hope to see you there.

oh, and if you are going to just attend at a spectator, it's much cheaper... around $20 bucks I think. In past Beast of the East events, guys such as Matt Serra and Gregor Gracie have attended.
