Open Question: Why does OSCAR say these things? ?

He says he wants to start promoting MMA fights. He explained Saturday night that he wants to take hot, young boxing prospects and toss them into MMA gyms and make them MMA fighters. I have no problem with that, if they want to, go for it. But Oscar says that a boxer would only need "a year to train for the ground game". If I were an MMA fighter who had devoted his LIFE to training stand-up and ground attacks, with submissions, etc. . . I'd be really pi#sed that Oscar thinks MMA fighters are just boxers with a year of "grappling training". . .. Any thoughts?

I don't know what he was thinking when he said that.... UNLESS he is thinking since the guys are already "professional" boxers they can spend one full year training nothing but the ground game in order to be somewhat ready for the MMA ring. If that is what he was thinking then he may not be too far off.

Don't misunderstand me by that statement because I have 20 years experience in the martial arts and all of that has been devoted to JKD and the grappling arts. I am fully aware of the grappling game and what it takes to be proficient on the ground versus being really good on the ground.

If he was able to set them up with some really good grappling coaches and they would commit to training the ground game like they train the boxing then they would be pretty good at the end of the year. This does not mean they would be Randy Coture good or anywhere near that level by any means.
