Lightbulb Attention TracyKarate

Tracy,
Here's a thought...

Have you ever been around elite miltary or fighter pilot types? They're brimming with attitude and cockiness because what they do everyday is more dangerous than the average "civilian" can even contemplate. A lot of these guys are fighters. They do it probably for the same reason I do...because we're too dumb to be good at anything else, and because we really, truly love it. Now I am not trying to make excuses for the people that run their mouths for no reason, but you have to understand that a lot of the people you think are showing disrespect are slamming people that they know and train with. TKOU said it in a reply to your post that we train hard, and sometimes we hurt each other in training, and we deserve to be able to bust each others' balls a little. (Yes TK, the safety is up...watch the root beer!!) and I think that maybe you're the one that's a little out of line. The people that read the posts like that know exactly how it is meant, and chances are, they're laughing like hell right along with it. The ones that don't may take it the wrong way, but that's the price you pay for free speech. I know that there are some guys out there with nothing better to do than to talk and challenge, but really...there are plenty of posts here without that vibe, so stick to those if the other stuff offends you. Go read the informative stuff, and let guys like BigBird, Yella, and Aloha have THEIR kind of fun. Me personally, I'm going to keep reading the stuff, because it's funny as hell, and I'd like to train with these guys somewhere down the road and see if they're really any good. All I'm saying is, be careful not to make your opinion and your rather limited view of what is said turn into some gospel tha you have to ram down everyone's throat. Or you could always jump in the NHB ring and find out why these guys love it so much...
Mike

Actually you can use the "ignore" function to avoid any posts by the idiots of the forum. (Though that might make the forum limited to about 3 posters....oooooh what a burn. )

Ryu,
You think there are three people left when all us idiots are gone. I don't know who they'd be....

Mike, first I would like to thank you for the respect you have shown me in your post. I will in turn return the favor. I have decided not to post on the other thread since it has metamorphized into an immature and uncalled for bashing of me. I understand what you are saying but I feel that I must agree to disagree. Why is it that when others offer their thoughts it is accepted solely as opinion but when I tried to offer my thoughts it is viewed as me trying to shove something down peoples throats? There have been many assumptions and accusation made of myself that are simply not true. I HAVE been in a NHB competition before so I do have experience in that. Also, although I train mainly in a traditional martial art, I do train in non- traditional arts as well including jujutsu(believe it or not). I firmly believe in being well rounded and a complete martial artist. The martial arts are a vehicle for self expression as well as a means of self defense and just practicing one style alone is simply too limiting to the individual. This, I think, is something we can all agree on.

Default Respect

Tracy,
Your statement that we can agree to disagree is exactly what we're talking about. It's cool to read things you don't like and then choose not to pay attention, and I think that you're taking the right approach. Don't let the games fighters play get into your head or you'll spend all your time babysitting people who have no need or want of the service. Personally, when it comes to mudslinging and trash talking, I'll partake with friends, but I don't like to open my mouth when it comes to people I don't know, because I really don't know how they'll take it. I think that the catalyst for deciding whether something is an opinion, or whether it is preaching is in its intent. Name calling (childish as it may seem) doesn't really intend to make people change their beliefs or behavior. When an opinion says "stop doing that," it makes people go defensive right away, because no one likes feeling bossed around. That's probably what sent people into a tizzy with your post. They were ripping on one another and enjoying a pure sophomoric laugh-fest at each others expense, and they probably felt like you were the voice of that 3rd grade principal seperating them into opposite corners of the forum and telling them to get along. I don't think it was all that personal...just the wrong message to the wrong people at the wrong time. At any rate, keep posting, and don't quit the forum because of somebody else's opinion of you. I think you probably have a lot to offer in the way of questions and answers here, so long as you can remember that it's just a discussion forum. It's good disagreeing with you, and I hope to do it again soon.
Mike

Thumbs up

MikeJKD covered all that needed to be said very well.
I really have nothing to add.
But heck, MOST of the people here don't like me (and the feeling is mutual LOL) but TracyKarate if it's any consilation, I agree with the notion that the stronger and more realistic a fighter is...the more respectful, and moral he should strive to be.

You won't see me posting on this site half as much as I did in the past, but I'll still be around.

Take care,
Ryu

Thank you for the feedback gentlemen. I can't tell you how refreshing it is to have an e-conversation with you without having to read through an avalanche of insults(laughing). I look forward to sharing info with you in the future.

Thanks.
