Ya gotta look at it this way folks, they guys that DO know anything about fighting ARE going to box and wrestle.

It isn't the mighty ISSHIN-RYU boys or the deadly Silat guys that are going to do any ass-kicking.

Who or what perhaps I should say, will the people use to win fights IF it doesn't come down to striking or wrestling (and by saying that, I'm including eye gouging and biting with wrestling)?

If you still think a "style" is going to win one for you, forget about it.

Ya know Bau, I still can understand why some many of you people think that "RING" fighters can't fight on the street? You truly underestimate them. It's the guys that actually FIGHT that are going to have the edge my friends. Applying your ring skills on the street is simply an "adjustment".

I don't care WHAT style you know, you're not going to defeat multiple opponents or people armed with knives and guns. It's better to run. But, if we're talking about two guys, fighting empty handed, the RING guys will RUN OVER the "art" guys, any day of the week. It comes down to how you train, NOT what you know.

Talking

CROSS TRAINING=RUAS VALE TUDO.

We have a boxing coach and a Muay thai guy for stand up, we train the greco and freestyle for clinching and BJJ without gi for groundwork...

still...

I wouldn't rely on my cross training for streetfighting. If you are forced to use your hands on the streets, something is gone wrong big time.

Hit with a brick, or whatever other weapon you have, on the streets it's EVER:
1.FROM BEHIND
2.AT DARK
3.WITH FRIENDS
4.POSSIBLY ARMED

Twisted...

Of course trained "ring" fighters will have an edge.....just saying.....on the street their "fighting"skills might not be enough...theres no ref, no rules... nobody to make sure you get out safely ...totaly different situation....its NOT just a simple adjustment...
Unless youre fighting a complete moron who isn't mad at you, doesn't want to hurt or kill you and has no fighting ability whatsoever.....

Something as simple as you slipping can change the whole thing.....no one is there to stop the fight...

If youre talking one on one "empty hand" fighting(hardly EVER happens on the street)...yeah....no shit the boxer would have an edge over an unskilled person....

But I still count every possible opponent on the street as dangerous...trained or untrained....the amount of variables on the street are endless....

I dont underestimate trained fighters....

But I wouldn't overestimate my skills from training either...

Default ON the street, on the street!

People are always saying "on the street". What is on the street? Is it a plain self-defence situation? or is it a street challenge? Sometimes I think you talk about both! To me "on the street" means I dont provoke a fight, I dont take attitudes showing my "superiority" as a fighter (ie: in clubs, bars), I dont challenge. I dont react physically to verbal assault.

To me, it is "just" self-defence, plain self-defence! The guy gets "physical" with me, I react! There are many level of physical agression: a simple push, he grabs you (there can be many intentions behind thoses 2: maybe he dosent want to "fight", he's just get emotionnal, stressed, angry to a certain point, maybe not to the point to hurt you bad! Of course you play "defence" but dont beat him up!) A punch thrown at your head or he comes close to "wrestle" shows clearly his intentions! I hope I made my point clear! (I'm french speaking so it is a little hard to express myself clearly in english! ) Not all the fight on the streets are deadly. Sometimes (I would say most ot the time) it is simple a simple "physical" altercation where the guy dosent want to hurt you really bad or to kill you! Of course it might happen, but rarely.

He can agress me with words...I'm not going to challenge him or start a fight for that! Hell no! I'm not that stupid! No offence, but I think most fight happen because of a too strong ego!

Every martial arts gives you some skills do defend on the street, but to different levels. Traditionnal Karate, TKD or Aikido might help you, but IMO not a million year close to Muay Thai, Boxing or BJJ.

But at the end, that is the mind that decides the outcome of a fight! If you "freeze" you done! If you flow with the action, you give yourself the chance to use all your skills...
