![]() ![]() | fair point, let me re-phrase.... if you were going to compete under an mma ruleset, but you could only get training in one style (ie. there was no 'mma' classes available) which would you choose and why? |

![]() ![]() | actually i'm not asking because i'm going to do it, just out of boredom and curiosity to see what ppls opinions are. Especially wanted to see if ppl still think that Ju-jitssu is still the foundation for mma or if this has changed as the UFC has changed to be more striker friendly. I went to a local mma show the other night with ppl from my school competing and I have to say that the ppl that went in only with striking seemed to fair worse than ppl that went in primarily with grappling much like the old school UFCs. Even if the grapplers haven't trained in striking they can still figure out how to strike relatively well when on the ground or clinch, but the pure strikers are fish out of water when on the ground. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | A grappling style for sure.....all the common ones are good eg, BJJ, wrestling, Sambo, Judo etc. It's only the exceptional strikers that seem to make it in MMA without much of a grappling background as long as they have good takedown defence. Just a quick opinion.

![]() | If I had to pick one, it'd be wrestling only because the guy that can dictate where the fight is going to take place has a distinct advantage over everyone else and the wrestlers are the ones with the skills to either stuff a bjj guy's attempt to get the fight to the ground or take the striker off of his feet. |

![]() | the way things are going, I would say wrestling.. there once was a time when it was kickboxing or something with more of a standup presence

![]() | I would say Japanese Ju Jutsu as this is the nly one that gives good past basic training in both striking and grappling. BJJ, Judo and wrestling only touch on striking (which is still rare) Muay Thai/kickboxing may do some clinch but no ground fighting. Teakwondo and Karate do not teach ground fighting Japanese Ju Jitsu, gives tuition in striking, throws/takedowns and ground fighting.

![]() | Wrestling. Wrestling allows you to choose the venue which the fight takes place in. If you are fighting a submissions specialist you can keep the fight standing, against a striker you can take the fight to the ground. So Wrestling. It's the fundamental ability to choose where the fight takes place. |
