Protein shakes are a waste of money.

There is only one pure source of protein and you have an endless supply for free. I suggest you figure out how to produce your own au naturale protein shake.

Shim, my friend, you are a sick, sick man! LOL!

As far as protein shakes, you have to be careful. If you are using a powder, some mixes will give you gas. Try different brands. I've heard a lot of people have good luck w/ Osmo. I use it, and its 50g. It comes in its own bottle, which makes it easy. Grab it, fill it, shake it, trash it. If you still have problems, you may want to experiment w/other brands.

BTW, are you mixing it w/water or milk?

Thumbs down

I personally don't think too much of protein shakes. That low grade whey $hit can't be better than a good amount of milk and chicken meat. I doubt they'll give you that much of an edge if you are already eating right to begin with. The only things I ever got from protein shakes are a false sense of heightened performance and a strong case of diarrhea.

I'm using 0% skim milk with the protein. True, the whey protein probably isn't better than chicken/fish, but my mom RARELY cooks anymore and 40 grams of whey protein is better than no protein at all.

Jared,

Try it with just water instead once or twice and see if your results are different. True that natural sources (protein, vitamins, etc.) are better, but sometimes not possible. If you are trying to put on size, most people recommend 1.5g+ times your body wt. per day in protein. I dunno about you, but I don't often intake over 200g a day in "natural" protein, that takes some work.

There are guys here that know a LOT about nutrition, supplements, etc. I haven't seen JohnD post here in awhile, but he really knows his stuff.

The reason you get gas is the lactose. Try Meta Whey or Designer Protein, they only contain 2% lactose
