Exclamation

Not like this is anything that you guys don't already know, but Ken has had serious "quitters syndrome" in many of his fights.

Ken/Fujita is the latest example. He was winning; he could have finished Fuijita off with punches. Instead he just pushed him down. Then he got his doubtful unconfident look on his face, and soon had Pete Williams throw in the towel.

Ken has improved his punching and his ability to stop takedowns. Several times he was able to drop down and block Fujita's takedown attempt by using his body weight. Not really a sprawl, but an effective stop of the takedown.

He could have won that one.

What other fights did Ken have serious "quitter's syndrome" in? Ken gassed then got hit in the nuts, I wouldn't be able to continue either. Plus punching like that takes a lot of energy and Ken isn't conditioned for punching, but grappling and I feel thats why he gassed so easily. He put all of what he had in the first 5 minutes.

Just a question about Ken though. My BJJ instructor was talking about MMA fighters and he gave A LOT of props to Frank talking about how he's a complete package especially in the grappling department. However, he completely put down Ken and said he was just a guy who shoots up steroids. A lot of people have that train of thought about Kenny, but I think he's a great fighter who is almost as complete as Frank. He's definatly the most complete HW fighter out there, not say he's the best. He's an awesome force I think, what do you guys think though?

Exclamation ken quitting

The fights I was thinking of were way back in the UFC. Ken had defeated somebody, and was wanting to fight Royce in the chanpionship. Royce had just fought Kimo. Royce threw in the towel vs. Harold Howard(sp?). The Ken drops out due to injury.

Another was Ken beating Brain Johnson, I think, and then dropping out due to injury.

And then Ken dancing around with Dan Severn in their first Superfight. I think.

These occurrences give me the impression that Ken will quit if pushed to his limit. Rather than to continue fighting, perhaps to win in the end, or to lose.

Ken did surprise me that he has improved his punching and takedown defense. So often we hear that a fighter has improved, only to see that he hasn't when he fights. So Ken has gotten better. So now what I'd like to see in him is more heart. If he ever wants to beat Fujita or any of the good heavy weights, he's gonna need it. Right now, a lot of guys know if they push him hard, he will quit. And that is an important edge. It's like when you're rolling and you know the guy you're rolling with will quit eventually if you just keep going.

Also, that is the opposite with Frank as of now. He uses his endurance as a weapon. And will keep fighting hard until the end.

Every guy has his limit, no doubt, I'd just like to see Ken raise his threshold for quitting. He should stick it out more. Tran more cardio if that's what he says he needs. But I wonder if it is not something else. Something in his mental makeup. Just my thoughts.

Red face ..

Indeed Ken Shamrock is a poor example to our youth.
In UFC1 the man tapped to Royce Gracie but when he realized that the ref didnt see it he tried to continue. This was a poor display of sportsmanship on his part. After the match he lied to the reporter by making out he did the right thing and admitted he tapped. It was at this point that I knew he was not an honorable man.

In his return to the UFC in number 3 he had great difficulty
in defeating Felix Mitchell despite the fact that Mitchell looked drugged and had obviously no idea how to fight under MMA rules. Ken finally defeated him but then refused to fight again when he heard he was fighting Harold Howard. Was it because he was scared of Canada's most dangerous man? One can only speculate but I feel that Ken was scared of the great Harold Howard. This is nothing to be ashamed of because even Royce Gracie threw the towel in rather than face Howard in combat.

Shamrock has never been able to complete a Tournament. He is nothing but a paper champion. He fights hand picked opponents and sometimes even then he cant beat them. The guy is nothing but a Pro Wrestler that had a few average NHB matches and then returned to Pro Wrestling. Any other opinion of Shamrock is purely wishful thinking by White Middle America who desperately looked to Shamrock as their great white hope.

Shamrock is 100% the most over rated fighter to ever darken the doorways of the Octagon.
