As far as I have studied Catch as Catch Can Wrestling came from europe and later evovled into ProWrestling which has been around for a long time. Thanks for your post Dutchman I think I'll move to another thread since no one is really posting any legitimate information here.

Groin Grab,
I too study bjj (blue belt), and I also study sambo, and I have the Tony C. Catch wrestling series. I find that Catch is a good addition to my bjj training. There are plenty of techniques and stategies that fill some of the holes in bjj (I am sure not all will agree here). As far as Catch being a "loose game", well I find quite the opposite. Catch hold downs are quite controlling and sometimes downright painful because of the use of pressure and leverage, which is used to set-up submissions quite effectively. As far as Catch being like "pro-wrestling", nothing could be further from the truth. Does anyone think that Ken Shamrock, Sakuraba, Mark Coleman, or Mark Kerr aren't legit in MMA? They are just a few among many of todays top MMA stars who also do some pro-wrestling. Old time Catch wrestlers may have been pro-wrestlers for money/earning a living reasons, but as far as I am concerned, Catch wrestling as taught by Tony C. is as effective as my bjj training or any other art for that matter. You could only benefit from his material if you give it a chance. You will notice that many of those who are negative about Catch wrestling are the ones who have never tried to learn it, or even seen Catch, whether it be on video or in person. Well, that's my opinion on Catch wrestling and if you are open minded enough to give it a try I am sure you will find it quite useful as well. billc Last edited by billc; 08-08-2001 at 03:22 PM. |

"I'm not impressed. I still say Tony C, is bad for catch wrestling."
To each his own Tape lord! Groin grab was looking for opinions on Tony, which you have given, and now I have given, so let it go. |

I know Tony C. and I don't think he's bad for anything. He's a nice guy and obviously has some techniques that a strong, atheletic man could put to good use. Matt Furey has some excellent books
IMO, especially the Combat Conditioning Book. Matt has told me in conversation strength is not needed in Catch. Tony C. says a little different. IMO both are pushing Catch so I don't see that they are hurting it. If Catch is worth it, then it will catch on, as has GJJ/BJJ. Hawk

i don't know what the hell you just said, but i already told your ass what my problem is, and it's a problem for the forum: stop chasing posters away. instead of trying to act like a "tuff guy" why don't you try acting like you aren't 14 years old.
