PRIDE15: Oyama vs. Wallid PlaybyPlay

Shungyo Oyama (judoka) vs. Wallid Ismael (Carlson Gracie Team, BJJ)

Wallid shoots double, oyama falls to guard for guillotene. (crowd goes wild, but wallid had an arm in and escapes quickly). Wallid keeps his head down and controls the hips as oyama punches from his back. Wallid seemed comfortable to stay inside guard and not pass. Kept a good base, and when oyama opened his legs to go to open guard, wallid threw a flury, and oyama went back to closed guard. Wallid stands in guard and throws some big punches, oyama goes again to open guard and wallid quickly passes. Oyama recomposes guard and tries to come out the back., and wallid passes to side control. Oyama somehow stands up, and wallid goes for double leg again. Oyama sprawls and has wallid guillotined (this one looked dangerous) but wallid gets double leg and oyama goes to guard along the ropes.oyama in closed guard, trying to overhook both arms, both fight for inside control. Wallid stands in guard (oyama keeps guard glosed) both continue to fight for inside control. Wallid sporadically peppers oyama with punches to the face. Referee breaks the fighters, and moves them to the center of the ring (wallid in oyamas gd). Wallid picks up the pace with the punches (3 minutes left in rd 1). Oyama’s defense is pretty good, and he isn’t eating many punches. Wallid’s base is REALLY solid, and he continues to punch. (2 minutes left, rd 1). Wallid continues to be active inside oyama’s guard, peppering him with punches. (1 minute left, rd 1). Wallid stands in base and throws a combo. (30 seconds left). Oyama hasn’t hit Wallid in a while. Oyama spins for armbar (very quick!) Wallid counters automatically and nails him twice. Round 1 ends.

Rd 2: Each fighter throws a rt hand, wallid goes for double, oyama sprawls and hits wallid. Wallid ends up getting double leg, and oyama tries to slide out to his back. Wallid blocks and ends up back in oyama’s guard. In a replay of rd 1, wallid in oyama’s guard, fighting for inside control, and throwing punches. He’s starting to land now. Oyama goes briefly to open guard, and wallid doesn’t bother to pass, he seems content to stay inside and drop bombs on him. Refs break and put the fighters back into middle of rings. Both fighters look pretty fresh. Wallid stands in gd, oyama to open gd, wallid passes , oyama gets ½ gd. Wallids’ base is superb.wallid punches from ½ gd. Wallid gets his head under oyamas arm for a head and arm choke. Oyama fights it off…..(wallids head is touching the mat, the choke is tight. Wallid gets his weight up to pass ½ gd… passes it and puts all his wt on the choke, and oyama taps… he’s out. It looks like he went to sleep for a second. Wallid head butts the camera in the corner. LOL! The camera bounces back, and the lense is left wet. Fighters embrace in the ring. Wallid goes into the crowd high fiveing the fans, who eat it up. He’s a wildman and the fan’s love it. I can see Wallid becoming very popular with the Japanese fans.

I find it interesting that you read the play by plays that I provided for everyone, and then slam me for it.

It was late, I was typing a LOT, and just happened to enter the styles that I saw on the screen. The entire tape was in Japanese, so I listed what I could.

Geez, duch, relax dude. That was uncalled for.

Maybe you've missed my posts wherer I rate Sylva and Pele as 2 of my all-time favorit fighters. Or maybe the play by play where I say that Ryan was totally dominated by Ishizawa.

No problem, just caught me by suprise!

The club is doing well, and the kids are having a blast. School is out for the summer here, so the kids are really wound up when they come to class.

If you've seen Pride15 it was really strange, like everyone swapped personalities.

Wallid grounded and pounded, Ryan got schooled on the ground. Matsui spent half the fight butt scooting against a brazilian. It was a very strange night. I was waiting for Vov to go for a flying armbar or something. (Vov did show a nice low ankle pick takedown twice, but kept going for it, and it started to be a bit predictable.) the thought of Vov getting mount and being able to stay there is horrifying!

i've not seen 15 yet, but i agree with role swapping, i gues people are getting well rounded.

I hope the fight between Wallid and Ryan goes down. It seems Ryan is duckin Wallid.
