    nose bleeding

Is there any way to prevent nose bleeding? My nose bleeds pretty easily. Sometimes my nose bleeds just from wrestling with people. I'd hate to see how easily it would bleed if I boxed.

Depends. Have you seen an ENT? If your nose is susceptible to bleeding, you might want to consider using nose protectors. Some of the best available can be found at this site.

    Hope this helps.

    WE got a bleeder here!!!!

Why is your nowe bleeding so easily? Is your home or work place extremely dry? A humidifier could be the answer. Or, you could put a little vasaline on your finger and lube the inside of your nose for a few days.

If you do get a nose bleed and have trouble stopping it, try a little nose spray. Nose spray is a vasoconstrictor (sp?) which means that it constricts or shrinks the tissue. Anyway, the shrinking action from the nose spray will sometimes close off the source of the bleeding.

Wierdest danged thing I ever saw...

... but I can't seem to stop my nose from bleeding either. About every 4 weeks I get a nose bleed and it comes and goes for about 3-5 days.

Actually, if you boxed it might eventually fix itself. When you get hit enough times and get enough nosebleeds, the vessels sort of toughen up and seal themselves. But you can also always go the easy route and just get a "nosejob". LOL!

I hope what you said is true, because then I could definitely start boxing or muay thai. I wouldn't wanna do one of those if my nose would bleed more easily than other people.

    Grahf1,

I used to have the same problem whenever someone would lightly apply a choke or someone bumps me against the nose (like with an armbar or something). Sometimes it's hard to keep apologizing when I bleed on someone's gi or something.

Ever since I started putting Vasoline in my nose before training, those problems haven't bothered me as much.

    AND STOP PICKING YOUR NOSE!

instead of vaseline, try NEOSPORINE (sp?)..... it too is an ointment and an antibacterial so it'll also help with the healing of busted vessels...

I've had nosebleeds since I was about 4 years old. The doctors pretty much gave up on trying to cure me. When I was six, I went through the traumatic experience of having doctors BURN the inside of my nose to seal off the blood.

The funny part is, I don't remember them EVER doing that, but my parents insist that it happened.......and they were apparently there when it did......they also remember the chagrin they felt at hearng their boy scream like that.

    OFF TOPIC -

I think there's alot of truth in the "forced forgetfulness" when it comes to traumatic experiences. Anyone else ever had an traumatic experience that your family swears happened to you.....but you can't remember a thing about it.

I DO remember a period of about three weeks at that age where my nose wasn't bleeding anymore....but it was constantly throbbing from pain.

I'm confused about this vasoline stuff. Exactly what am I suppose to do with it, just take some and stuff it up my nose?

And how far up should the vasoline go?

Re: the vasaline, use a putty knife and pack as much in each nostral as you can.

Seriously, treat the inside of your nose like you would chapped lips. Just put a little vasaline on your pinky and put a thin coating on the inside of your nose. No need to slather it on like mustard on a pastrami sandwich. A little dab will do ya. The idea is that you are moisturizing the membrane, again, just like you would with chapped lips. Karlinhos was right, neosporin or bacitracin or triple antibiotic ointment (over the counter stuff from your pharmacy) all have the same effect of vasaline but they have the added antibiotic or two to help with healing/infection.

As for the burning of the nose. I believe that DR.'s used to use silver nitrate. It's just a blob, kind of like a match head, on the end of q-tip type stick. The blob of silver nitrate is rubbed against the oozing blood vesel and it cauterizes it. It stings like hell and hurts for a day or so but, in my experience, it has had fairly lasting effects.

Before you try that route, do the vasaline thing and put serious thought into how dry your living quarters are. You can find cheap humidifiers and they have cured more than one bloody nose.

Do you have more bloody noses in the winter time (closed up inside, not much air circulation, dry air, etc)?
