I just saw on the ADCC site that Don Frye is listed as fighting Brad Kohler in PRIDE 16. I know that he's been in Japan w/ Brian Johnston for a few years working as a pro-wrestler, but did he still keep up his NHB training?
I would figure he did as he's cornered and trained Fujita, but does anyone have any other info on him and if he'll be ready for this fight? What's his weight at now? He was ringside at a Superbrawl about 2 yrs ago and he looked about 225 lbs or so and looked in very good shape. He was a cool guy and was nice to the fans that approached him. I've anxiously waited for his return to NHB and I hope he comes in blazing. I would have liked to see a fight between him and Marco Ruas or Ken Shamrock. MEB Boy |

I agree, I would love to see Frye v. Shamrock. Even though Shamrocks boxing has improved I would still give Frye the edge in that category. I don't think either could take the other guy down, at least not easily.

What about these matchups:
Don Frye vs Vanderlai Silva Don Frye vs Tito Ortiz Don Frye vs Randy Couture I think any of these fights be a war. Hopefully Frye gets rid of any ring-rust w/ the Kohler fight, and then lets wait and see what some possible future matchups are. But I don't want to count the chickens before the eggs have hatched. ![]() MEB Boy |

those would be some good match ups. I would actually give the edge to all of Frye's opponents simply because he's been inactive for so long. People bring up that he's been training Fujita for NHB, but Fujita has shown nothing except a good chin and cardio. If he's sharp he could out wrestle silva, maybe tito also, but he'ld have to hope to maintain distance and outbox Couture, which I doubt he could do (maintain the distance that is).

I met Don Frye for the first time at the post fight party of UFC 30. He had a t-shirt on that said, "I killed Kenny". I was at the bar with Marco and Pedro and laughed like hell. Frye then introduced himself and asked for a picture with Marco. Frye told Marco how much respect he had for him, so I thought that was very cool.
After meeting him, I now have a lot of respect for this guy. He seems to have the same attitude as myself - treat people with respect unless they treat you otherwise. Also, this guy has buffed-up big time. Even Marco commented on how big this guy was. I would love to see him fight Marco (Marco would submit him in my opinion), but I think everyone wants to see him fight Kenny. I would give the edge to Frye in standup and Kenny on the ground. In the end, Shammy would gas out from all of the steroid use over the years and have another towel throwing incident rather than tapping like a man. |
