Check this out;
If we had left the middle east to it's own devices and just been isolationist about the whole thing, I gaurantee that they would have annihilated eachother by now and the whole world would call us the devil because we had the power to intervene and didn't. So we do the noble thing and intervene, trying to bring stability to a region that is in the economic interests of EVERYONE (not just America). What happens? We are still called devils for trying to police the world. It's a no win situation. When you are on top everyone is gunning for you and everyone is a critic. It's like a champion fighter. If he doesn't want to fight so and so he's a coward. If he fights so and so and wins, well, the opponent was a worthless bum and the champ is still a coward. As for people who say that America is only in the middle east because of personal interest; Everybody in the history of mankind is ultimately looking out for their own best interest, EVERYBODY. This a fact of human nature. We should not be blamed for human nature. I don't care how moral you are, everybody is looking out for themselves, don't deny it. And the people who denounce capitalist materialism? Well I bet if you offered those people a whole boat load of money they would take it. I mean who would take less money when they could have more. It all comes back to human nature. Everyone wants money,power, control of their own lives. America cannot rightfully be blamed for the basic flaws of being human. The reason these religous fanatics don't like us is because of the globaliization and westernization of the whole world. This, again, is simply a process of human evolution. If it hadn't been the US that started globalizing it would have been china, or england or russia. This is not our fault. The reason we don't like them is because they want us all dead for things that we can't be rightfully blamed (as stated above). There are no excuses, no justifications, that can stand up to reason and logic, for this horrible, horrible thing. Anyone who sympathizes with the people who did this have no comprehension of the arab state of mind. These religous fanatics don't listen to and are not motivated by reason. "The glory of god" is the answer to everything. To sympathize with there point of view demonstrates an absolute ignorance of their point of view. I know people in this town that were saying "those corporate bastards got what THEY deserved." They say THEY as if they were not among those people who died. They say THEY as if they couldn't be next. THEY as if the people that died weren't really people. I hear Americans saying that America got what it deserved, AS IF THEY WERE NOT PART OF AMERICA. This country is composed of people and we are all the same. There is no American entity that exists outside the people. America is people. To say that Corporate America deserved it is saying that all America deserved it. An attack on America is an attack on the people, because America, like any country, is just people, regardless of if you agree with foreign policy or not. We need to all remember that ANYONE OF OF US COULD BE NEXT! And the people who did this hate us all equally, capitalist or not, rich or not, they hate us all. To sympathize with them is sympathize with someone who wants YOU, and YOU, and YOU (YES YOU) DEAD. There is no middle ground on this. Either you are mad as hell, or you are enemy to humanity itself. BTW, bravo to anyone who actually reads this entire rant. UNITED WE STAND Last edited by Evilution; 09-13-2001 at 11:51 AM. |

you're right. We can't win. There is no finishing line, no opponent tapping out. That's the message.
You can't win against guerrilla tactics with no clear battlefield. Even in Vietnam it didn't work, when the VC were simply just more willing. But I do think that if these people had the possibility to deliver such a message through a military target, they would have. They just can't, we're too good, or they are too small and don't have the tools except the willingness to be more savage. It makes me really confused. I just saw Bush stressing the importance to not confuse these idiots with the Muslim looking people in the US, and that gives me some hope that we focus our strength on those couple of thousand fanatics that would do such a thing. Not on all those countries with people looking like them and reading the same book. Hmm, remember "dumb all over - Frank Zappa"

You guys are right, this is a war we can't have a clear-cut victory in. However, the more of this douche-bags we kill, the fewer that will be left over to kill innocent men, women, and children.
