Its difficult to suggest one style. You need striking i.e. boxing, muy thai, greco for clinch a few good freestyle takedowns and a very good ground game.
It takes a lot of dedication.
Good luck.
I am 5'7, 165 lbs and stocky. I plan to lose 5-10 lbs eventually because I am a little overweight. What styles would you recommend for both striking and grappling?

Find the light in the darkness, and you will prevail.
If you live in a big town, find a mixed martial arts school.
there are tons here in Los Angeles and many other cities.
if you live in a small town, you may need to cross train, a grappling school and a stand up school.
Why do you want to learn?
self defense, competition?
important answers to these questions will determine what school is best for you.
I'm never gonna do NHB. I'm training mostly for fun, excersise, competition, and self defense. For striking and wrestling, I don't plan on competing. But I do plan to compete in BJJ. I don't know if I am gonna train in all 4 of the NHB styles, that is why I am asking this question.
I plan to train more seriously in BJJ than the other styles, because Muay Thai will ruin your body if you do too much, and boxing has the risk of brain damage. BJJ is also the most enjoyable for me.
I have another question. What do you think is better, going to an MMA school that combines grappling and striking, or cross training at a different school for each style?
