I would definetly choose shotokan karate, the deadliest of all martial arts.

Krav Maga
I don't know that much about this martial art, but from what I hear, it's very close to street type self defense and offense. It also depends on the rules of this "contest" as to which should be picked. As in lots of rules vs no or little rules... |

Martial art refers to any form of fighting art.
I choose flying a high altitude bomber. Long range and very fast. Preferably a stealth bomber. By the time my bombs hit you ,I will be half way home!

relax....lol dont over blow this post...it's just a simple question for those who "TAKE" any form of fighting... that's all..most people on the street don't take martial arts and boxing with jujitsu would be enough.. i dont see akido, tai chi, karate, kung fu winning anything in the UFC..... or any of these battles...so i'm just wondering what would you use? |

O.K.
I would do whatever the situation commands. I would clinch and take down to use my jits if I was close. If I had the room,I would use my feet.Going for a knee or ankle first.then shoot for a takedown. I am short and thus have a short range for boxing.Therefor I would only want to box with someone with the same reach. Boxing is my weak point.Although I am better at it than most non trained guys.Since I have taken everything BUT boxing.I would only want to box with someone that showed me he wasnt good with his hands. But,no matter what.My first reaction would be to get my hands up in a boxing stance for two reasons. In case he can box I need to be coverd up.Second ,it makes him think that thats where I want to fight.

In all seriousness CJ, I would have to go with what I know. I haven't studied anything else enough to know what I would want to use.
What kind of contest? I wouldn't want to enter a striking contest because I don't like getting my face beaten in (i.e. kickboxing, MT, etc). I'm assuming that you are talking about entering an NHB contest? If that is the case I would want stronger submission skills and excellent cardio. Striking, grappling, takedowns, all of these are important. But the ace in the hole has got to be submission. As they say, "if you know submissions, you are never out of the fight." I have watched every MMA contest I can and rarely do I see a striker beat a submission grappler. Statistically speaking, but you can always find exceptions. When a grappler and a striker square up in ring the grappler will usually win. Why? Because he makes it a grappling match. If the striker has crosstrained in grappling, then he has a strong chance of winning, but he is no longer a pure striker, and again it's a grappling match. Self defense situations are quite a bit different. Here a pure striker can "win". In competition however, I believe that submission skills and conditioning are paramount. |

your right about boxing..it's a very clean sport . but if you mix muy thai boxing with it ...it become very dirty. if you simply use the punches the dodges, the body shots..then your set..i'm not gong to hug a guy if i'm tired...lol imagin that... if it came down to it i would grapple but you go for what you know ...that's true. i have a 74 inch reach so that isn't too bad elbow, and knees added to boxing and it's way more deadly |

hmm...kind of an interesting question. Assuming everyone else in the contest has the same rule to abide by, (choosing just one) I would have to go with wrestling.
My conditioning would be enough to take me through a competition and even without knowing any BJJ style subs, I would at minimum be able to beat the snot out of the guy from the mount. ..........especially the "dim mak ninja"

I think it's really less a question of styles and more a question of stratagy. I don't really think there is such a thing as a style these days. Idealy everyone should be training to fight on there feet and on the ground. As for the stratagy I would choose. I've spent most of the last two years working the ground. However in a "streetfight" I'd probobly look to tie up and stay standing. That is if I was unable to kick the guy in the nuts or hit him with my car.
