UFC 35 was BORING!

Man, I don't think I will ever pay for another UFC again. Where was the action? Plus they didn't even show all the damn fights.

First off the "Iceman" has pretty crapy kickboxing skills and those Russians were more then a little over hyped up.

The best fights of the night had to be hands down Eugene Jackson vs Keith Rockel and Jens Pulver vs BJ Penn.

I was disappointed I didn't get to see the Gil Castillo vs Chris Brennan fight, but I heard that Gil was laying and praying for most of the three rounds so maybe I was better off not seeing it.

Over all I was disappointed and felt a little cheated even. I doubt I'll order another UFC again. Anyways thats my two cents.-ED

Maybe my expectations were a bit high, I mean I have been watching Pride.

Dude you have to admit, the Iceman and both of those Russians were a bit over hyped.

Too much stalling for time and points. It was either hit and back away or lay and pray with only a few exceptions. The title fights didn't disappoint and Jackson showed himself to be a stud, but there was way too many decisions and not enough submissions or KO's.

The stand up rule is great except for the fact that all the striker has to do is stall long enough to be stood up.

Anyway, I was disappointed.-ED

I didn't bite into the hype about the Russians.

I have to take a step back and I think others too, remember just how low the UFC was and how high they've come back to the point now that they are finally on Pay Per View.
More and more quality athletes want to now compete in the UFC's.
Pride is still a hot event but now the UFC is getting stronger and stronger.
But is the UFC worth the price?
Naaaah, but there are many places around that you can go and see it.
I have "the box" and have no problem viewing it, so I am spoiled.
To pay the amount, yeah, you get high expectations, trying to justify paying the price for entertainment.
We trained last night.
I got there a little late (because of work) and one guy asked me if I was home watching the UFC and I said "yeah, too bad that BJ lost..." and everyone wanted to kill me.
We went to one guy's house to watch the replay, not knowing the outcome of any fights.
Little did I know, my joke would be true........

I thought the fight card was ok. I thought the Semenov-Almeida fight was good. I enjoyed the Bustamante-Menne matchup. Rodriguez-Monson had some good moments.

Matchmaking is really a hit and miss thing. So many matchups look great on paper, but the dynamics of combat could give us much different results than we expect. Pulver-Penn comes to mind. We all have our favorite fighters that have had exciting matches, but they all end up in snorefests also. Just part of the game.

If you watch a boxing card with 4 or 5 matches, you hope to see one or two exciting fights. Watch a professional wrestling card with 8 matches and you might see 3 that are memorable.

Everybody always refers back to the old UFC's but they had their stinkers too! The old UFC's were fun because of so many mismatches! The old UFC format started showing its weakness around UFC 5. Once the skill disparities started to close, there was no way you could run a UFC (regardless of the legal barriers) the way they did in the beginning. They would be left with 10 viewers and Royce might still have Shamrock in his guard today without time limits!

I think the UFC rules encourage spectator friendly action while preserving the integrity of the sport. But in the end, it is up to the fighters to make the fights entertaining. Those who can please the crowd and win will make more money than the guys who can't please the crowd but can win. The beauty of the free enterprise system!

Friday night's UFC was definitely one of the better ones. I've watched all of Pride's shows, and many of them were not as exciting as UFC 35, so I don't know what you're talking about GinSue.

Hey JG, glad to see you're watching the UFCs again. But I suspect this is more a convenience issue for you now that the UFCs are airing on cable.

If you follow the careers of the participants, you will enjoy the fights more.

I think your analogy to boxing fight cards is very valid and true. Most boxing PPVs have boring fights. This is sometimes true for the main events as well. With the UFCs, you get at least 2-3 exciting fights.

I don't expect every match to have a clear winner or to end with a KO or submission. I also don't expect to see 3/4 of the fighters more concerned with scoring points and crusing to the win then in actually earning the win. Pride and KOTC seem to be able to do a better job in setting up of matches then the UFC. I didn't watch the last Pride but the two before that blew this UFC away. Hell the last two KOTC events blew this UFC away.-ED

I seriously doubt Pride's matchmaking is better than UFCs. They've consistenly paired up fighters w/ significant weight differences, only to end up in gross mismatches. They also have fights w/ pre-determined outcomes. Pride is not half the professional organization that UFC is.

Hey Gin Sue I bet you loved the Royce-Shamrock superfight didn't you? UFC 35 was if not the best one of the best. What do you expect from Chuck fighting another Kickboxer man? And Murilo, he deserves the belt but I predict he will only defend it once! Ricardo really made his submission skills look like shit when he went from triangle to knee bar to heel hook and didn't get one locked! Boooo..

I paid for it and felt like I got my moneys worth. A few fights were boring, but hey, what can you do?
