Question Good books

Read any good books on Martial Arts lately? If so, I would really like to hear what you have to say on the subject. I am an avid collector of all martial arts (and other) books I can get my hands on.

If you've written any books, I would like to hear about that too. Even though I spout off and splatter opinion all over the forum, I love to hear everyone's perspective, so anything you have written or read that you think is worth reading, let me know!

Thanks,

SZ

P.S. CrazyJoe, I don't want to hear about all the Penthouse forum stories you've submitted in the years past....

I like some of the older books that are written on the martial arts. Some of the newer ones seem like a rehash. My most prized book is Canon of Judo by Mifune. Others I like are Higher Judo: Groundwork, Complete Kano Jiu-jitsu, The Manual of Judo, Wrestling by Henry Stone, Total Aikido, Takamiyama, Classical Fighting Systems of Japan (new book), and the tree book series by Donn Draegar. I would like to get the book Budo that Ueshiba wrote though (Aikido Journal recently added it).

What are some of the best books you've read?

Too many to list. I haven't had a chance to check out the new books on BJJ yet, but I'll do that eventually. There are a ton of older Judo books that are good, as well as some books on Jiu Jitsu and/or Aikido. Typically the have tons of good background info.

If you're looking for good technique related books, then the Ippon series of books for Judo are pretty good. Please note, they deal more with standing techniques, but I believe being well rounded in standing and rolling is essential to rocking the hizzouse!

If you want to check some of the links out, do a search on Ippon USA, or if you want decent reviews, check out the Bill Lewis Tape Review website.

i've heard only good things about the 'fighter's notebook'
it's a bit expensive, but for "$ vs move" you get a great deal

Living the Martial Way, by Forrest E. Morgan

I've never read a better martial arts book.

Zen in the Martial Arts, by Joe Hyams (i think that's how its spelled) is good too

Gotta love the classics - The Art of War, The Book of Five Rings
