Hey yo, one of my housemates put down a challenge against me today and insulted jiu-jitsu. To make a long story short we had a wrestling match. He had 4 inches and 15 pounds on me, but I guillotined him pretty easy.
So, if someone doesn't tap out, and gets choked unconcious, how would you recessitate them?

They will wake up on their own unless you held the choke for too long. It's good for them to get up slowly and walk around afterwards to prevent a clot. If you hold the choke for longer then I don't know; I remember when Wallid choked out Royce it took Royce at least a minute to wake up.

If you did not hold it too long, like Mr. Miyagi, said then they will either wake up on their own or there are a couple of tricks to accelerate the process like sitting them up on the mat with your knee in the back and pulling on their shoulders to expand the chest cavity and force them to take a deep breath or pinching them on the inside of the leg ... etc but if you did hold the choke way too long then CPR will be required .... so it's way better practice to release the hold as soon as you feel the body go limp ... that's obvious enough I think ...

No. I didn't hold it too long, I just wanted to know what to do in a worst case scenario.

Hopefully, in a training situation, everyone knows when to tap. You might want to try and stick it out when you are being submitted, but you should save that for supervised competition.
While training, you should take it easy. If there is only two people working out together, you might not notice when someone goes out. But then again, you might not notice the tap either. We practice on canvas mats and you can't always hear the tap. Its good that you're asking questions like this, it shows your desired level of preparedness. Your mother and uncle have taught you well.... |
