The lack of any striking training in "pure" GJJ is a serious weakness. Shooting in, clinching and taking down a striker using GJJ works great when the guy is a "pure" boxer or kick-boxer who doesn't have a clue of you're going to do but if it's someone with experience in how to fend of a shoot, unless you have some experience in stand-up fighting, the results could be ugly.
I recall one class in which one guy had a hard time shooting in and was continuously getting pasted in the process. In the locker room, another guy told him: "Don't worry - in the street, you'll eventually get the clinch." Being a smart-ass, I chipped in with: "Yeah, either that or get knocked out." They were a little bit surprised by my remark - it hadn't occured to them that they could conceivably get KO'ed; they took it as a foregone conclusion that a shoot would eventually end up in a clinch. |

See thats where you are wrong. There is striking in Gracie JJ. Rorian teaches diversionary striking technique and punch defense. Maybe you guys should spend less time on sport jiu jitsu or time training with a teacher who is versed in the self defense aspects of BJJ/GJJ.

I recieved my blue belt from Royce, I think that qualifies me!
You are all so blinded. Every great fighter is a descendant of a great Gracie Minotauro Bustamante Sperry Rickson Royler Royce and so on and so forth By the way how was Coleman tapped out? did Minotauro take him down? Did he do some fancy wrestling move? No I think it was TRIANGLE from the GUARD! ALL GRACIE JIU JITSU Last edited by Roy Gaflaer; 04-13-2002 at 11:29 PM. |

Everyone knows you shouldn't go to the ground with two big sweaty guys. No one ever said you can't do anything.
Besides, my martial art is the superior martial art. It teaches me to: 1) Keep my mouth shut. 2) Don't go looking for trouble. 3) Treat people with respect. 4) Run Away!!! Run Away!!! 5) Jump spinning back kick. If done correctly, no can defend. ![]() SZ |

You are correct as usual Soho. However, this stems from a friend of mine who studies T A I Kung Fu. This is how we make fun of him and his 'jump spinning back (kick)'.
I do believe it's the only move he knows. Here is a video of my art in action. http://www.weirdlinks.com/videoclips/Catattack.avi You can't stop it! you can only HOPE to contain it! SZ |

Roy, styles don't win fights people win fights. One kick in the yambag and the fued is over.
"I received my bluebelt from Royce" you probably picked it off Royce's waist with your teeth, you pink pokemon. Didn't you announce that already twice, once here and once in another thread. That's kinda gay, dude. Did you do any tournaments? |

I never stayed in Los Angeles/Torrance for more than a week at a time, but I did remember Torrance had their own Tournaments with their own rules. I remember Royce telling us we didn't compete in other Tournaments because "we don't associate with the fleas". His words, not mine.
I think the Pink little guy is adorable! |
