Default Gracie Jiu Jitsu IS the best all around style!!!!

In a one on one, man to man fight Gracie Jiu Jitsu is the superior martial art. Royce Gracie proved that by destroying every fighter he faced in the first UFC. Art Jimmerson, Boxer, Ken Shamrock, wrestler & submission specialist, Gerard Gordeau, Kickboxing/Savate/Muay Thai. This is as close to real fighting as you can get. In a real fight you don't have three months to study your opponent. Wrestlers get subbed left and right until they learn BJJ! Even after training BJJ and studying Royce for months all the heavier, chemically enhanced Ken Shamrock could do was lay on Royce until fat John McCarthy stood them up. Ken landed one lucky punch then laid on Royce some more. Style vs. Style Gracie Jiu Jitsu rains supreme.

I guess no one wants to hear the truth.

    Pure wrestler vs. BJJ= BJJ
    Boxer vs. BJJ= BJJ
    muay thai vs. BJJ= BJJ
Karate, TKD, Judo, etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. vs. BJJ = BJJ

Or more specifically Gracie Jiu Jitsu since BJJ is the bastard step child of Gracie Jiu Jitsu!!!!!!

    dude, watch Pride.

    Bjj vs wrestling = wrestling

anyways,....i think Frank Shamrock said it best when he said "Look, we are fighting the best in the world in the fighting, sooner or later everyone is going to lose a fight. Anyone who says they have an invincble style is an asshole, or trying to sell you something"

really man, 'this BJJ is the king of the universe' is really ****ing old and most ppl know that a good mix of styles is THE BEST STYLE.

    and yea...this isn't ****ing 1993

OK, OK it's obvious everybody missed the point here BIG TIME! Gracie Jiu Jitsu is the best all around style, meaning if you only had one style to train in GJJ would be it!!!!!!!!

All the fights you mentioned are from about 10 years ago. You have to start watching some of the new ufc’s/prides. I love jitz, and I think any martial artist who does not spend a good amount of time working jits is really missing out. However saying it is the best style is missing the point completely. It implies that spending time learning how to do good takedowns is a waist of time. It implies that learning how to fight on your feet is a waist of time. That’s just a silly way to look at things.

"Or more specifically Gracie Jiu Jitsu since BJJ is the bastard step child of Gracie Jiu Jitsu!!!!!!"

Come on now an armbars an armbar a triangles a triangle, the mounts the mount a chokes a choke. No one family owns those techniques. Yes the Gracies were innovative in jitz and brought it to the U.S. they get all the props in the world. GJJ is all about marketing. Careful if you keep using the name you might get sued. People like Rickson and Renzo are not even allowed to use the name "Gracie Ju-Jitsu"…Some people consider Regan Machado to be number two in the world after Rickson, is what he is doing a "bastard child"? Give me a break.

Default BJJ not the best all around style

Can you really label any martial art as "best all around"? BJJ isn't even an all around style, much less the best. I don't know what it's like at all the other BJJ schools, but where I'm at, we train very, very little on striking. We've done some basic (very basic) boxing. In the past year the only thing I really learned about striking is that it works great when your mounted on a guy, and you should try hitting soft parts of his face rather than hard parts. I tried boxing with a guy not too long ago and got my ass handed to me. Maybe because I'm a clumsey guy... not too good with my fists.. and maybe because of the lack of training.

Also, BJJ takedowns pale in comparison to wrestling. Even if you know wrestling takedowns, a real trained wrestler is gonna do it better. BJJ just doesn't stress it enough.

And wouldn't the "best all around" martial art focus atleast some on multiple attackers? Everyone knows you can't go to the ground with 2+ guys. Only Roy would go to the ground so a couple of big sweaty hunks could mount him.
