Thanks to everyone that came to the HCK Take Down Workshop yesterday, April 20th. It was well attended with people coming from as faraway as Arizona, Colorado, Bakersfield, Ventura and Northern California.
Special thanks to the regulars who post here, and to the people who train at well known local BJJ schools for attending. Your support is sincerely appreciated. Rico taught some basic principles of underhook/overhook tie up positioning; several tie ups involving the clinch, where you can take your opponent's back while standing;clinch take down into the MOUNT, and clinch take down into SIDE MOUNT. Frank taught underhook setups to various single leg take downs, including one where you end up in BACK MOUNT. Vlady taught variations of 2 on 1 arm drags where you can take your opponent down and break his shoulder at the same time; arm drag to single leg and to double leg take down. Fernando taught arm drags off of head snap lock ups to a very tight single leg take down, and a inside leg entanglement take down. We are working on the next seminar and possible topics may include setups and take downs involving the gi, various take down defenses, and stopping that deadly BJJ technique of "flopping to the guard". Future workshops will work on submissions that many BJJ players rarely see. Howard Liu HOWARD COMBAT KIMONOS |

Panther X...now this is a blast from the past. Glad you are still around. I now train full time at the rAw Training Center. I was going to both the Machados and rAw for quite a while. Rigan gave me a brown belt about 2 years ago.
It was a difficult decision to make, as I trained at RCJ Machado for close to 9 years. Rigan is a great guy and fun to be around. But as time passes we all develop our own idiosyncracies. I found I enjoyed rAw and developed a passion for stand-up grappling. I started to drift into being a hybrid grappler, and my strategies started to change. I would only go to the ground if it was to my advantage. How is your training these days? |

FlyingOmoplata - here is a true story for you. My original manufacturer is the sewing factory for Mizuno, Adidas, Kusakura, SFJAM Noris, Daxsport, Kwon. Back in 1998, Adidas was curious about jiu jitsu and my manufacturer put us together to talk. At the time we were talking about HCK being the North American representative for Adidas Jiu Jitsu. I gave them the basic design philosophy and architecture for their jiu jitsu gi. We did not come to terms with the relationship.
So, the Adidas jiu jitsu gi you see on the market today is actually my creation. Howard Liu PS - needless to say, I have switched sewing factories and found one that sews even better. Since Mizuno, Adidas and HCK are now direct competitors I do not want the original sewing factory to give up any of my design and marketing ideas to either Mizuno or Adidas. |

Price of Adidas depends on where you hook up to buy it. JJ Machado is selling it for over $200.00.
Since basically the Adidas gi is really my creation, what do you think? |
