Our boxing sanctioning body gets 2-5 requests per day from fighters with various types of NHB victories looking to fight for a boxing title.
I like the idea. With fewer PAL clubs open each year and fewer AAU and Golden Gloves competitors each year, the feeder system for pro boxing gets weaker each year. It's not like Rick Roufus and other martial artists haven't held boxing titles before. And an infusion of accomplished champions entering the system, each bringing their own fan base with them, would be great for the sport. There have been three problems: 1) Boxing governing bodies have been unwilling to credit MMA and kickboxing success when deciding whether they will sanction a title match for a fighter. 2) There is no NHB or kickboxing equivalent to sites like http://www.boxrec.com which would easily allow sanctioning bodies and promoters to check the record of a fighter and the records of the fighters they have faced. For example you can check the boxing career of Rick Roufus here http://www.boxrec.com/boxer_display.php?boxer_id=007162 but for his kickboxing or MMA record good luck. 3) Boxing promoters are not open to the idea. We can solve the first problem. The second problem we can limp along without but it would be nice if one of you guys put up a NHB version of Boxrec. The third problem would have to be gotten around. We have to tell the NHB fighters and kickboxers who contact us to find a promoter who wants to put them on a card (thinks they can sell tickets) and is willing to pay a sanctioning fee to get them a title fight. It would make much more sense for us to refer them to MMA and kickboxing promoters who want to add boxing championship matches to their cards. Is there a site that maintains a current and comprehensive list of MMA and kickboxing promoters? |
