Default Escaping the rear mount

I had this fast little guy take my back last night, and for the life of me, I couldn't get him off. He couldn't choke me, couldn't armbar me, but damn, he was stuck to me like glue. After fighting him for like 3 minutes in this position (at the end of a long rolling session), I finally just gassed and had to tap. Frustrating, but a much-needed wake up call about my cardio...

Anyway, what are some of your favorite escapes when the guy has your back? Face up, face down, either one. I tried doing a sitout before he got the hooks in, but was too tired. When he finally got the hooks in, I went for the ankle/shin lock, but he was too slippery. I peeled off one of his hooks and sat on it, then tried to turn back into him, but somehow he kept a step ahead and got back around to the back. Maybe I needed to pressure back with my head more to pin him down. Anyway, any ideas you'd like to share would help!

Jeff

Try doing a forward roll and come out of his legs or just collapse to the side and grab an arm and work your way onto the top. This will put you in his guard but at least he is not on your back. The most important thing would be to just keep him off balance and moving.

No one taps because they are tired in my club. The instructor would kick your sorry butt out.

Bri Thai, do you have any favorite rear mount escapes you'd like to share?

I'm sure if I bought him enough beers after, the instructor might let me stay.

Yup.

As always, keep neck covered and elbows in.

Shoot left leg back, straightening it out, and manoeuvre his heel away from your hip with your elbow. Return your leg to it's origina position. This whole movement should be explosive and fast.

Repeat with your other side, so that he is still on your back, but without any hooks in.

Then, as the little one said..........Roll over.

Anyway, where's your little poodle Pentjackoff? Not seen him here in a while.

Did I frighten him off?

When he's got his hooks in, reach as far as you can with your left hand across your chest and over his right shoulder and grab ahold of his gi. Then explode your left leg straight, which should momentarily release the foot that is hooked into your left leg. Then pull with your left arm and twist to the right, into him and his remaining hook, and you should end up in his guard or (more likely) a half-guard.
