Default Side Stomp Kick

Most of us remember seeing Royce Gracie in the early UFCs using the side stomp kick to keep opponents on their guard, but has anyone any opinions on its effectiveness as an actual striking technique?

It feels great on the 6 foot bag, but does it realy put an oponent out of action? If so, any tips to perfect it?

Well those little kicks dont do much damage, it's more to distract your opponent to prepare a submission. The only tip I can give you is, try to hit the ribs or the butt of your opponent he will be distracted he will think more about your kick then to defend himself.

But personnaly I dont like those kick it's a waste of energie, I dont like to be on the bottom so I work harder to be on top.

Hope it help

I didn't mean the kick form the guard, I meant the side kick to the knee area from the standing position. I agree with what you said though, I wouldn't waste my time with the kick from the guard.

Default stomp kick

My instructor has taught me to do that kick from the side and from the front. The stomp kick Royce did most was from the front, and it's similiar to a boxers jab. It won't do much damage, it's mostly for setting up other moves.

Default Low Side Kick

From the Onguard Stance I use a low side kick which is what your talking about only with a different name.

Anyway, the low side kick is mainly used as a feint by me and many others. But if directed at the opponents knee cap it can immobilize an opponent.

Thas usually the first thing in my combinations is a feint of something. Then when my opponent is of gaurd WAM.
