Gents,
After following the gigantic Gun Confiscation thread a bit, I thought that a related issue might be interesting to 'discuss'. This election cycle has to gun control initiatives on the ballot in Colorado and Oregon. I think that the citizens' initiatives would basically require background checks at gun control shows. These shows currently dont require any gun control checks, so basically a paranoid schizophrenic with multiple violent convictions could purchase a firearm w/o any trouble? The ballot initiatives are aimed at closing this loophole. The control lobby and the NRA are both heavily involved in both of these state ballots. Apparently, these votes will also have some greater consequence, as the gun control groups think that if they can pass legislation in these two gun 'friendly' states, they can in most other states, too. Current polls indicate overwhelming support for the measure in Colorado (75%+) and likely passage in Oregon, too. And these are ballot initiatives, so they are the direct will of the electorate! I wonder how the pro gun folks here view these initiatives? They appear to be likely to pass and have broad popular support. And they also seem fairly reasonable measures - not extreme at all. Are you guys going to fight these type of initiatives 'tooth and nail'? I think that you would be making a tactical mistake in fighting this type of 'common sense' gun control: the majority of Americans support it and view it as 'reasonable' restrictions. Why not work with the moderates and enact sensible restrictions that both sides can live with? E |

Unfortunatly the one in Oregon is so badly written it allows almost anyone to get personal info off these records which must be kept for 5 years.I would have no problem with it if it werent for the pork thrown in on it.It starts a registration system which is the first step to regestering and licensing all gun owners.People here will probably vote it in.Big mistake.
If there are lists of all gun owners then it makes it real easy for the next step. Confiscation! Which is what Adolf did. A very dangerous thing to let happen. Especially if they vote in that looney that thinks he invented the internet! |

Ya with Bush we wont have any fascist problems eh...
And come on "Thats what Adolf did"?? Anybody with a sliver of intelligence realizes that no one is going to come to your homes and confiscate anything. All Gore wants is idiots to not get guns. Well i live in Oregon too and i can tell thats a lost cause. Way too many idiots here anyway and most of them gomers who love to go shoot defensless little critters for fun. If you want to stay away from controlling, dictating, tell you how to live even if your not hurting anyone or anything leaders, absolutly do not vote for Bush...

B/S! look at the name of the post that started this whole discussion-gun confiscation begins in CA. You may not think its going to happen and it may not, for a while. The way things are going its inevitable that someone is going to try to sometime along the line. And I agree Bush isn't someone I want to vote for but I don't want to vote for Al Gore even more.We need to get a different voting system in this country. We need to change alot of things in the government.

The registration of gun owners in England and Canada is now the list they go by to round up guns. They have come to peoples homes and taken their shotguns and hunting rifles, some that were antiques and worth alot of money.Austrailia is doing it too.If you dont think this can happen, then you simply are'nt up on current events. They want them all!

Um, didn't we just cover this topic for, like, 20 pages in JB's thread?
And now you're gonna make him all crazy again... Yikes.

Ya and your going to stop drive by's now....how?? They pop a couple of caps and wait while you run into your house, go to the bedroom, put the clip in run out and shoot??? Guns are for killing period. At some point in our evolution (and i would be happy to explain this term if needed) we wont have guns. It wont be for a while but get used to the idea. The difference between Bush and Gore on this is easy though. Bush would allow any one or company free rein including gun makers. Gore (a hunter) would try to control "non" hunting weapons. Its called logic folks.
