Tyson are you chicken?

I was sifting through my old black belt mags and came across
an old article in the June 96' issue. It was titled:"What's the matter Tyson...are you chicken?

Here's some outrageous quotes:
"Most people think that Tyson is the best fighter:they must be confused.I'm going to prove to them that Tyson is not the best fighter."
"Some people wonder how I would fight Tyson. I would fight him like I fight everyone else. I would send him to dreamland."
"Nobody is punchproof;He got knocked out before.I'm ready to take a chance with him."
When Tyson lies down at night-time to go to sleep, I wonder if he really thinks he is the best fighter in the world. I

I may be going out on a limb here but I think Royce Gracie could defeat Tyson in a NHB fight.Tyson is a one dimensional fighter,sure tyson is fast and powerful but I think if Royce could get him to the ground Tyson would be beat.Just my opinion.

In my opinion, I think Tyson would kill Royce. Possibly, literally kill Royce. Heh. But seriously, the fight starts standing up, so the fight is starting in Tyson's favor. Now let's say they do go to the ground. Unless Royce can magically confine both of Tyson's arms and manage to get a hold on, Tyson will still be swinging at Royce, and swinging damn hard.

I would put my money on Tyson.

The facts are that now EVERYONE including Tyson knows that an MMA fight will go to the ground. I think it would be very easy for an athlete of Tysons level to learn defenses against take downs etc within 6 months. Everyone scoffs at this but its true. Mo Smith learnt grappling defense in a short time. Frank Shamrock learn how to fight in a short time. Both these guys were top athletes. Tyson is also a top athlete and I really think that he would be way better than Kimo or Hackney were in UFC3. Both those guys still gave Royce a tough fight. Tyson would put his fist through Royce's skull.
Tyson would destroy 90% of todays pro MMA fighters in an MMA match. He would go the distance with another 5% and the remaining 5% might have a chance of beating him.

Learning to sprawl and defend throws is easy?

Give me a break. Even experienced anti-grapplers get taken down sometimes.

Tyson would have a chance against most BJJ'ers weak takedowns, but any half-way decent wrestler would hand him his ass.

Tyson is not a god. He is not even a top boxer anymore.

yeah guys like Couture, Kerr, Coleman, etc wouldnt have much trouble with Tyson because they are probably just as strong as Tyson and hteir control and takedown skills are way more dominant than say someone like Royce....

Tyson wouldnt fair well against a good wrestler but against someone like Royce (with a few months of anti takedown defense) he would come out on top....

First off in boxing most of the boxers will just go in and take what the other boxers throw.If Royce was to get in real close to tyson than Tyson would not be able to throw full power blows.I mean all the punchimg power in the world isn't gonna help you when you are on the ground.

Also most of the Bjj artists I've seen in NHB events had good defence against punches.I also believe Maurice smith could defeat tyson,All maurice would have to do is keep kicking tyson in the back of the leg to keep tyson away

I believe that Royce could take a few of tysons full power blows,Royce has taken some very powerful hits in some of his fights.

Let's not be ridiculous. If Tyson hit any under-200 pound fighter square it would be lights out. I just don't think he could land a solid blow before being taken down.

What? That's where Tyson fight's best. In close. That's where he knocks most people out.

Did anyone see what Mike Tyson did to Michael Spinks with one shot? Berbick? Long? M. Frazier, etc.?

Do any of you have ANY IDEA how much tougher these men are than Royce, and yet still fell like they were shot with an elephant gun when hit by Tyson?

If a no-account bozo like Keith Hackney could give Royce trouble, does anyone have any idea what an anti-grappling-trained Tyson would do to Royce? I mean just with a full-power, bare-fisted shot in the gut? Let alone to the head?

I agree with the concensus that Tyson could, quite literally, KILL Royce if he hit him cleanly. And even if Tyson only landed a glancing shot, his punches are so powerful they would knock a thin man like Royce into queer street ... and then God help him when he received the two-fisted follow up.

Think about it: Tyson can destroy the toughest LINEBACKER-SIZED men in the world with one punch, have you any clue at how Royce stacks up to these big, professional boxers in toughness? Anyone? Anyone?

All kidding aside, Royce is way too frail a weakling in comparison to Tyson for it to be anything but a slaughter.

Good points made by everyone here,but I'm still standing by Royce or shamrock against Tyson.After Tyson gets taken down I believe the fight would be over for Tyson.I'll agree that Royce would get slaughtered if he tried to standup fight Tyson but I think Royce would be too smart to try and fight tyson standing.And yes I believe Royce could take Tyson down without taking very much punishment from Tyson.
