Default Opinions, please

I know a lot of you seem to have no opinion, or at best give monosyllablic responses, but I'd like your thoughts on Kung Fu San Soo, as I'm interested in what others think of the style I just recently began studying. I'm not asking for a doctoral thesis, just a few good and objective viewpoints.

BTW, I like it very much, so far.

Cool

If it is the style similar to Muay Thai, but with more emphasis on throws with some grappling, it looks pretty effective to me. Hard to go wrong.

no, you're thinking of San Shou. It's more of a kickboxing style. San Soo is about ending a fight quickly with repeated brutal techniques and no hesitation, and it has a heavy grappling emphasis.

Can you post any good websites about San Soo? Background information would be great.

Question

Yeah, I often got the two mixed up, actually. If you want more info, http://www.about.com is a good place. Type "San Soo" in the search bar. Should be lots of info.

Respect

I just followed my own advice (imagine that . . .) and went back to About.com. I'm getting the feeling that San Shou and San Soo are really the same art.

San Shou was designed by the Chinese military in order to support their troops in close quarter combat (CQC). It was designed to take out opponents as quickly as possible, and to keep the soldier on his feet as long as possible to avoid becoming an easy target.

It evolved into a sport because the only way to prepare to be hit and thrown is to be hit and thrown. And the bes way to do that without high risk death is to make rules and get into the ring (one could argue that heavy contact sparring achieves the same end, but that's neither here nor there ).

I got a lot of my info from http://www.sanshou.org/

Also look at http://www.kungfu.net/sanshou/

I like this sport. It looks practical. Apparently, it is related to both Sambo and Thai Boxing.
