"In 1973 Count Dante was requested to come to Hollywood, California by Counselor Films to do a screen test for the starring role in a Kung-Fu movie. The test proved futile due to the fact that the camera could not pick up his brutal, lightning - fast hand techniques. The motion picture studio's insurance coverage was canceled due to the injuries of stunt men and martial artists on the set because Count Dante did not pull his punches and kicks."

Why, those strikes were so fast it is almost as though they were never actually thrown at all....... Maybe the stunt men injured their sides during laughter?

I also remember adverts for his books in the British Martial Arts press about 20 years ago. It was under the ever growing "Learn these deadly secrets" banner that many of our fellow trainees seem so willing to believe.

My memory might be off but wasn't Count Dante involved in the "Dojo Wars" back in the 70's?

    COUNT DANTE PANTE

Yes, I had heard of Count Dante and actually seen video of him in action on video - the verdict : he's about as talented as David Carradine or Ralph Macchio at the martial arts.

He used to be featured in magazines with the gimmicky nonsense of the 60's/70's 'learn to kill in 5 days with your bare hands' type courses.

Count Dante is a lousy martial artist, and his reputation says it all - he hasn't got one!!!!!

As his quoted amazing speed, he is actually rather slow and shows very poor form in his techniques, particuarly his terrible kicks.

Anyway, if he's still around; what's the legend sorry mistyped there that's LEG-END up to these days?????

In the 60's/70's many reading the mag's didn't have a clue what was the genuine article and what was not, so many con-men appeared on the scene most with little or no martial arts training, this guy was one of them - a 2 bit hustler con artist with very limited martial art skills who managed to fool a small amount of the general public that he was a master and 'deadly' mainly through his tacky adverts.

Count Dante if you're out there, I don't blame you or your students for keeping a very low profile (or rather invisible!) in the martial arts world these days, your students must be embarrasssed to say you're their teacher, so would I be! I hear your students wear paper bags over their heads in public to remain icognito!

As for Count Dante's pathetic books and courses on self defence - do the sensible thing if anyone has them or comes across them burn them (DANTE'S INFERNO?!?) or use them as toilet paper, your choice!

All kidding aside, I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that he's dead. So sleep easy, folks!

    Emin Boztepe defeated Rickson Gracie

True the whole bunch of Gracies and Machasdos are a joke. Emin Boztepe from Wing Tsun went round the Gracie HQ in Los Angeles and beat up Rickson Gracie and offered to take on anyone else there, after he wiped the floor with Rickson, everyone else declined. Incidentally, the fight did not go to the ground and Rickson was knocked out cold from Emin's power. This was filmed using a camcorder I have a copy, the quality is good enough to clearly see it is Rickson getting the beating if his life, and the even filmed the outside of their HQ and going in to make sure noone could disbelieve it.
This was after a long feud between the Gracie's and Boztepe, a war of words if you like. Now it is settled, after the beating the Gracie clan asked Emin not to tell anyone Rickson was defeated for fear of losing their reputation.

Anyway, it's on tape and beyond dispute.

Compared to WT, Brazilian Ju-Jitsu is an all round joke! Good for NHB competition obviously, but quite useless in the street or against a real fighter like Emin Boztepe.

Yup, if it's on tape AND posted on the internet, that settles it. It Most definitely is true. No doubt about it. I'm certainly convinced. Your word is good enough for me.... I don't even have to see the video.

Count Dante was a real seventies deal. Although his book was thin and mostly pictrues of fishooks, gouges, and other not-so-niceties, it was material not (never) seen elsewhere.
The Chicago Dojo Wars of the early seventies were also real and did not end until one of Dant'e students, John C(something) was killed by a samurai sword during a raid on another dojo.
Dante was also a hairdresser/beautician and died naturally around 1975 of something exotic like a blood disease.
