Question

Mushin,

Most of your links between the Punch and Philosophy are dead. I was curious about this "Two-barstool Punch."

Respect.

Cool

they're not dead, they've just never been born!!!

I haven't had the time to do them yet, and i probably won't for quite some time. Sorry!

Two-bar-stool punch is just a fancy name for this technique develop in the 50s (i think) by these awsome asian dudes Tani and Kimura.

This punch is the most innovative idea I've ever seen in the striking arts, and favors a "SRIKE HARD, STRIKE DEEP" metallity (sorry, a motto my platoon earned at the gas chambers )

It uses the same punching style as the one link that works on my site shows. This one you don't really want to do from a boxer's stance though, because that takes away from the power, and gives away the fact that you're gonna lay into the dude.

You punch just like in those pictures, but your rear leg extends behind you. You should still stay the same height off the ground, but your punch, once you learn to do it correctly, spans the distance of a side kick, and is propelled forward with your body weight (said to span the distance of two-barstools, popular for bar fights...). You land moving forward, thrusting your non-punching had into the guys chest, and my advice is to keep going. It's such a bum rush.

A good pair is this technique with a footsweep or thai kick, because the dude is going to be moving backward. When performed correctly, its really fast - even when expected. My teacher is well in his 50s and he could knock me out with this thing even if I knew it was coming!

It took me about three months before I became even half proficient and powerful at it - its got a wierd feeling to it. It'll be up on my web page in the future - the very, distant future, lol.

If you're really interested in it, and your ever in the upstate NY region, LOL! You could probably pick it up from a good shukokai school - but that's pretty hard to find these days. Most karate schools wussify techniques.

The cool thing with this technique is you can do it from having your hands at your sides, and that's where you get the most power from it. One of the best stree fighting techniques I've ever see. Only drawbacks are it leaves you wide open to counter attack - on one foot, leaning forward. Its a suprise attack that requires a lot of commitment, but pays off bigtime.

Its really hard to describe and you need an instructor to show you, b/c it feels so ockward at first. Sorry I coudln't be of more help.
