Yesterday I worked out some with a wrestling/boxing friend for a while. He put on the gloves and I tried to pass his hands for a takedown. There wasn't much I could do. I could almost scoop his leg up but he kept uppercutting me until I backed off.
We traded up and he tried to take me down. The guy has great wrestling skills and he took me down with ease. Outside trip, single leg, double leg and a very low single leg that never seems to fail. The best I could do was try to gain position on the takedown. Anyone have special tricks for getting past someones hands?? Especially if the guy is relentless and refusing to grapple?

yea.. learn how to box..
if you dont, then you might get racked up ever time. learn the correct way to do jap straight left right hook and upper cuts. practice your combos.. learn how to faint, mma you shouldn't really duck so forget about trying to go under his swing to counter unless u know he wont throw a knee.. boxing is hard and it's painful specially if your the one taking the shots.. what? and he can wrestle.. enjoy that one.. it's no biggy someone always knows more, it's up to you to make yourself better. make his fight your fight.. move left if hes a righty, dont let him get at you..jab jab jab power hit.. if you are shorter, just rush him... courner him.. dont be the hunted.. be the hunter... and block .. especially those nose and lip shots.. ouch! for the shoot you have to learn how to sprawl.. jump back with your legs aways from his arms and now you probably got your chest on his back/sholder and got him in a reverse headlock.. swing over and now you are on this back..it's harder against a wrestler but i'm sure you'll figure something out... |

According to the new england submission fighters notebook when you clinch it is important to a) be quick about it and b) either keep your head high under his arm or low and past his hip.
Ive done this drill a few times and it has seemed to help me by being aware of the position of my head. cheers, Mike |

mr.poppy..
forgot to add. u should be happy he is better then you. it's better that he is cause you can learn something. keep sparing with him and you will learn how to box better and be able to figure him out. it takes time but you will get it. the more you spar with him the better it will be for him to get you..
