I think Wing Chun would be far more effective if you restricted it to lightning fast bil jee finger thrusts, aimed at the eyes and the throat. But, of course, you could end up in jail for attacking in such a brutal manner.

Fights would last for 2 seconds, and opticians would lose another future customer.

Thats the thing with the UFC's and the MMA in general. They are civilised, and do not allow such strikes. Perhaps Wing Chun would have a chance of coming up top dogs if they did, though your pool of competitors would run low.

Or they would start using the same techniques. That's the flaw with saying: "if they were allowed to do this or that". If you take them out of their game, they come up with a new game. You may catch the first guy off guard, but the rest will incorporate (if they're smart).

Wing Chun kung fu is a very sophisticated weapon--nothing else. It is a science of combat, the intent of which is the total incapacitation of an opponent. It is straightforward, efficient and deadly. If you're looking to learn self-defense, don't study Wing Chun. It would be better for you to master the art of invisibility

I had a look at the listing of all the fighters. There is one fighter that uses WC .. and hes not losing all his fights.

There are not many karate entrants but they seem to be doing ok as well. Its mostly BJJ, freestyle and streetfighters .. oh and wrestlers, that enter this. So yeh good luck as well I would be interested In watching this so keep us updated.

Also there is one TKD guy also, he won 1 lost 0 .. so thats pretty sweet too.

William - you are right. But the WC guys would win early on, like the Gracies did at first (until everyone copied them). In striking competitions the Thai Boxers won just about every fight, but then started getting beaten by people from other styles. But the people from these other styles were using a great deal of Thai Boxing......so they weren't really from "other styles" anymore.

Jessie - The thing is, no matter what style they claim to have, they train in techniques from others styles. I mean, look at UFC3. Kimo the lunatic was down as a TKD guy. He was very effective (Especially since it seems to me he was steroided up for Jesus....) but I didn't see any actual TKD in his fighting on the day. So what style they claim to represent becomes increasingly irrelevant.

hahaha, I saw that Wing Chun video. That is a sad sad example, but rather funny nonetheless.
