I can't help you in the aspect of you wanting to hurt people you know. I think it takes discipline to be able to control your actions, and NOT to hurt people in training. Why would you want to do that? It's not real. It's just training.

i know what you mean. used to happen to me until i found some people who would go all out and expect the same in return (not easy to find)--everybody's still friends at the end of the day though. geoff thompson invented a thing called animal day in his school. it is basically an anything goes, go all out ass kicking fest that everybody agrees to participate in. nobody wants to hurt their training partner, but training is relatively useless without doing your best to hit someone/choke someone, etc. and having them do the same. if you are that worried about hurting someone by accident, maybe you need some new training partners.

you probably rule outside the ring because you don't play by dojo rules--they are for idiots in real life. it's not time to be nice when your ass is on the line. most people fold under the adrenal stress/fear. since i assume you keep you head, you give them a beating (read 10th degree bb super masters). it's not easy to treat a sparring match like reality because it isn't. too many people mistake them for the same thing when they are very, very different. it's mentality that makes you dangerous in real life--i assume you have it. it's not easy to turn the killer instinct on in the ring. one suggestion: don't become friends with your tps. it may sound a little weird, but it could help give you the emotional distance necessary to fight harder--most people don't want to knock bob out once they find out he just got fired, dumped, etc. see what i'm getting at?

good luck,
ryan

Man lucky for me if I want a real good hard randori session luckily One of the brown belts there is like 1 and a half times the size of me and big, he loves to scrap it out. I just go as hard as I can especially on the ground, Im definitley better on the ground and even my sensei thinks that.
But yeah CrazyJoe I reckon ya should just out as side your feelings and just go like you would on the street, Surely if you get too hardout another guy there will come and split it up.
Your proberley the opposite to me although we do different arts and I have never at the moment come to a situation to defend myself on the street, I dont really know my potential, so I make up for it for being real fiesty in the Dojo

Thanks for listenning

Scott

Crazyjoe, I know what you meen, but I dont agree.
These guys your training with are your trainingPARTNERS!
You dont want to f**k them up.
I would hate you if your threw me in to the wall with purpose, just so you can feel mean, causing some kind of injury on my neck or shoulder or something, making me miss a competition.
An accident is an accident, but on purpose........?

But on the other hand, dont appologize all the time when training, thats anoying, just take notice of your trainingpartner if you accidently throw him in to the wall youŽll know if he is hurt .
If you focus on YOUR self when training, you dont worry so much about other people (are you ok?) etc.
Just find the guys that like to go hard, so you know who they are.

AND I would recomend competing a lot, there you can go full force, against guys your own size and experience.

BTW beating people up in the street is not, will never be, the same as training. If you suck in training, train harder.
And regarding "most people in those terms would always crack up under pressure.. " I know a few streetfighters that crack up under the COMPETITION pressure.

I too never go in full force when training. Even if it means I get submitted by someone not as good as me, I don't mind. The training is still hard, but I do not want to hurt anyone. But I've always been lucky in the sense that, when I really need it, I go off like a fearless tiger. I've had many a scrape where I have won against the odds. It isn't just the skill and size factor, it is mental. There are no subconcious barriers when it is fight for your life time, and you fighting and screaming like a lunatic does seem to dampen the enthusiasm of your opponents.......

It's the same for me in other areas. Like driving for example. I was always a little hesitant in lessons, but when it was time for the test everything fell into place and I drove better than I had ever done before. Same went for exams at college, assessments at work, you name it.

I count myself very lucky in this. I have seen many many people the other way around. Great in the dojo (or in driving lessons or whatever), but then they go to pieces when they need it most.

Joe, you train so you can fight. You don't fight just so you can train........ You're one of the lucky ones.

For months I've heard 'Why can't you be more like Joe?'

Now I know what the hell she's talkin' about, you bastard!!!!

Ah well, as long as I'm gettin' paid......

Does not going full force have anything to do with you trying to maintain self control? The guys I spar/roll with go full force constantly. I try to maintain self control and work leverage and technique more than pure strength.

I just hope I don't ever have to encounter Bitty when he get's into
