Tell me more about your concern that Kenpo isn't full contact. What exactly is the definition of full contact and what is the "pitty patty" or whatever you mentioned. THe upper level belts put on head, foot, and hand gear when sparring and they seem to be popping one another pretty rough. By full contact do you mean sparring without any protective gear?
Also, they do use grappling, but I think it's more of a focus later in the training. This group is oriented towards a self-defense system that works, not aiming to preserve kenpo as an "Art". The instructor earned his purple through 3rd black from Ed Parker himself. |

When sparing, in class I ware leg and arm pads. They are thin pads that protect the soft area on the top of your hand and foot. Also along the top of your forarm and shin. They do very little and full knuckle contact still happends. When we spar the only rules we have are .. not kicks to the nads .. and of course no eye gouges/dirty stuff.
We go almost all out. Personally I pull back on alot of my moves because I dont want to hurt some people (eg on kicks to the head) .. they know when I could have hurt them and they dont chuck a sneaky hit in. Some students do hit as hard as they can .. its personal choice. We dont stop when someone get hit .. unless is something serious where they cant fight after teh blow. I pretty much count this is full contact. But because I guess most of us to hold back on our attacks I suppose its also not full contact. (most attacks I dont hold back on .. its just attacks to the head which I do .. or solar plexis). |

From my understanding,Dr Morris has combined bujinkan techniques and other arts he has studied with an esoteric yoga and chi kung bend!
Dr Morris's website: http://www.hoshinjutsu.org Szczepankiewicz -sounds like you are fond of Dr Morris from your guestbook entry on his website: **Very interesting stuff. I have read two of Doc's books and a compatriot of mine has had the opportunity to attend a seminar. The next time the Hoshin have a gathering out West I'd like to know about it. Definitely a different perspective.... undertow@kumiuchi.com -Szczepankiewicz-

I know this is a serious descussion, but ......... the animation..............what where we talking about again - my mind has gone blank - - ahh yes i remember!!
I have trained in Bujinkan somewhat and have not found too much escoteric stuff so i dont think that this is high priority in the association. The techniques seemed a bit lame - although this may have been the teacher. cheers! Chris |

Yes, you are observant and studious. And I have three of Dr. Morris' books. What I asked you is how Bujinkan and Hoshinjitsu are different. If you don't know or don't want to answer, that's fine, but quit tormenting me with voluptuous gif files......

Here is a thread on e-budo and yes its on the **BAD** ebudo section and Bad in this case does not mean cool it definitely stinks.
http://www.e-budo.com/vbulletin/show...ht=hoshinjutsu I just think Glen Morris has taken Dr. Hatsumi's techniques and has made him his own and conveniently has called it **Hoshinjutsu**! Maybe he needs to come up with his own ideas and katas before he calls himself **soke** and creates a new art! What a joke! You do not refer to yourself as **Soke** !

My exact thoughts! The esoteric stuff is not a priority, training is! and you probably did have a lame teacher if you thought the techniques were not effective.
