I'm not certain I could defend from this attack. If a guy was to come in this way, the 'classic football tackle', He ducks his head down and lowers his arms for the tackle. This leaves openings for eye gouges, ear pops, throat strikes, scratching his eyes out!
This all becomes a question of timing and skill and how good of a wrassler the agressor is. Spanky |

Personally ive only come across being tackled on the street .. its happend a few times .. we dont train this where I train. By reflex I dropped to my back as he was coming in .. but the attacker was going to reach me before I landed .. so midfall I just brought my knee into his face. Other time I missed face but planted in the chest .. sending dude over me not being able to breath well. Other things I could have done in that possition if I think about it .. was shin to the nuts styles.
If I wasnt quick enough in dropping and he got a hold of me .. I think I would be elbowing the attacker to the back of the neck or side of the neck while we were falling .. although Im bound to be pretty hurt as we hit the ground .. but hopefully so is he .. or if Im lucky he will be out .. if I hit him in the right spot. |

You know, in pankration fights we see this kind of take-down all of the time, and even trained guys make one very common mistake: they keep their heads down while they "dive" in. I've never had much of a problem getting an arm around their necks in a sort of reverse headlock. The next important thing to do is move your legs way back behind you, and drop your hips at the same time. This removes your legs as a target for your opponents hands, and dropping your hips puts a lot of weight and leverage down on your opponent. This means that you're still standing, have control of your opponent's head, and can still use one arm or line up to spike your opponent's head/face with fast knees. If all else fails, you're still in a good position to move into a guillotine choke.

The 6 out of 7 who said they can counter this take down, no one said it works every time .. as with any counter or whatever .. it will never work every time. Its all about timing and being ready for anything.
CrazyJoe. Ill beat YOUR kids. But ill do them a favour and do it while they are still in your sack .

all in all, this tackle is not as hard to counter as you may think. just make sure you don't fu#k it up, or you may be in for some hurt. ryan |
